One "Normal" Mom's Vent to OctoMom, Nadya Suleman

The Voice Millions of Moms Who Are Very Upset with You

Jackie Kass
After an unusually hectic morning of getting my two sons off to school, I poured my second cup of coffee, and turned on Good Morning America. I need this break before launching into a mound of unanswered E-mails and pending assignments from my home office.

The date was January 27th, and the top story of the day was the birth of octuplets in California. Oh, how cool, and what a miracle, I thought to myself. I have followed the Dilly sextuplets from birth (now in high school!) and occasionally watch TLC's TV show 17 and Counting about the Duggar family and their now 18 children. So my initial reaction to the birth of octuplets was one of awe and happiness.

Zip...fast forward to today. This story now borders on the absurdly insane with strange story after stranger story being leaked about OctoMom, Nadya Suleman. My opinion about this miraculous birth has changed 360 degrees. In the time frame of one short month, I went from feeling initially happy to ridiculously angry.

I have two children on my own, and figured that I have changed more diapers than I care to remember, attended 60 baseball games, 32 soccer games, 36 football games, and spent thousands of hours helping with homework and school assignments. That's for 2 children! OctoMom, multiply that figure by seven times, and you'll get a good picture of your future.

According to Baby Center, it costs $340,930 to raise a child from birth to age 18 on the west coast. That figure does not include the cost of college. For a family of fourteen, dear Nadya is looking at a cost of $4,773,020 to raise her family. Now it's true that she wants to go to college, but really?REALLY? Come on! Even if she were lucky enough to win the lottery, she will still fall short by a couple of million dollars needed to raise her family.

The more I read and hear about Nadya Suleman, the more I realize just how disturbed and emotionally and financially incapable she is raise a family of this size. I simply love all children, and feel incredibly saddened at the dim prospects of their lives of Nadya's 14 children. And YES, I am mad at this situation. I am mad at this irresponsible mother and doctor who implanted her with so many embryos. I am mad because these children did not ask to be brought into the world, and they do not deserve this unfortunate upbringing.

The rumors and news stories continue to swirl about OctoMom, Nadya Suleman. Much of the news is just too bizarre. In a short capsule, here are the latest bizarre headlines surrounding OctoMom.

* Suleman told the Today Show's Ann Curry she was implanted with six embryos, some of which split.

* Infertility doctor Kamrava is under investigation by the California Medical Board and American Society for Reproductive Medicine, which recommends women under 35 to be implanted with no more than two embryos.

* The mother of 14 is single, unemployed and receiving food stamps, and began asking for financial donations on her web site.

* Ed Doug, the OctoGrandpa has said that he has $100 in his bank account, and needs to leave the country to work overseas. He flat out asked Oprah Winfrey if she could help by having his daughter mentally evaluated, because he believes she's not all there.

* Denis Beaudoin, who was in a three-year relationship with Nadya, told Good Morning America that he decided to help her because she said that she had ovarian cancer and time was a factor. No father is listed on the octuplets' birth certificates. Beaudoin wants a DNA test. Suleman denies that Beaudoin is the father.

* The house Nadya Suleman is currently living in may soon go on the auction block because the mortgage hasn't been paid in 10 months. OctoMom was recently seen shopping at Nordstrom.

* A psychiatrist from the L.A. Department of Children and Family Services claims Nadya Suleman is putting her 14 children in "psychological and physical danger."

* OctoMom blew some of her hard-earned handout money on one tube of clear lip-gloss from Nordstrom, which ran the food stamp user a cool $14.50 plus tax. In comparison, a 48-pack of pampers usually runs around $16.99.

* Despite denials, OctoMom bears an uncanny resemblance to Angelina Jolie. In past photos, her lips looked nowhere as full as they are today.

* Major porn distributor Vivid Entertainment has offered Nadya Suleman $1,000,000 to do a porn film.

I am still so disgusted and sickened by this story. Some of my friends are currently battling infertility, and would be "over the moon" to have the opportunity to adopt one of these babies. The children would be so much better off in the long run. Clearly, OctoMom Nadya Suleman is off balance and needs professional help.

For the millions and millions of "regular Moms" across the country, I say, "Nadya Suleman, shame on you!" I must run now to attend yet another soccer game, and shout heartfelt support from the sidelines. Note to Nadya: what will you do when that time comes???

nancy tracy, get over it. no body gets the life they think they deserve.
i thought babies came from small seeds and found them in a noxious weed and grew them in a glass of water in the sun. i do not blame my mother for giving me no information or the wrong information.
some kids grow up in difficult circumstances to overcome them and go onto greatness. you are not necessarily doing your kids a favor by being the perfect mother. it sets up unrealistic expectations about life and human relationships.
i am sick of the drivel about how she is not going to give enough to her kids. maybe it will be their blessing. my kids are often just as happy with the box as the present that came in it.
i don't think she thought through her actions but never mind. the decision is made and the babies are here. to say that some stranger would be a better mother than nadya simply cause they want the kids is rediculous. nadya wanted the kids too. that is why they exist.
i find it quite scandalous that

This story also makes me both mad and sad. The selfishness is incredible both by Nadya and her infertility doctor. Those beautiful babies deserve a chance at a normal life. I agree that these babies should be adopted out to families that will be able to provide them the love and support they so deserve. As a poster said below, hopefully this story will also bring to light what is going on in the IVF world and regulations will be put in place to avoid this sad situation from occurring again in the future. As a mother of two sons I ache for those babies and Nadya's six other beautiful children.

There seems to be no end to the absurdity that "Octomom" lives!

I agree 1000%! Nadya's story has me angry beyond belief. Nadya should focus on her 6 beautiful children at home and allow for these new babies to be adopted in to the loving homes they deserve!

Great vent! I stopped at two because I was the third child and thought all animals were either cats or dogs until I was five. My mom just assumed she had read the animals books to me as she had my brother and sister. With six children already in tow, there is no way Nadya will have the time, money or energy to properly mother these bonus eight children. If anything good comes of this it will be that attention is now focused on the shadow side of the IVF "industry."
