One Skein Scarf to Crochet

One Skein of Yarn = Lovely Gift Idea

Marie Anne St. Jean
Do you need a quick gift? Do you have one skein of yarn? If so, you can crochet this pretty scarf that is very simple to make.

This is my own pattern and it works up quickly using a simple crochet stitch. If you are just learning to crochet, you should be able to make this scarf without difficulty. The pattern requires less than one skein of worsted weight yarn to crochet a scarf of approximately 72" long. You may choose to make it longer or shorter to suit your preference, and if you'd like it wider than my pattern shows, add 5 stitches for each pattern repeat.

This pattern can be made with one of the fancier yarns such as eyelash yarn or a heavier boucle yarn, but I don't believe the pattern stitch would show up well, so I wouldn't recommend it. For this crochet scarf pattern, I would stick with a regular yarn of a worsted weight.

A solid color makes a very pretty scarf, but a variegated yarn or stripes made from two or more colors would be just as nice. Since the pattern doesn't require much yarn, it would be a good way to use up smaller amounts of yarn in a variety of colors. Be creative and use your imagination!

You may sell items made from this pattern, but please don't sell the pattern. You may provide a link to this pattern, but please don't post the entire pattern.

After Working this Pattern I have found that your base chain should be 23.

Araceli, yes, I did start on the 5th chain from the hook as before. I have also done this same scarf with a chain of 15 when I use bulky yarn as it ends up being almost just as wide. I usually use the chain 23 with Caron Simply Soft yarn and anything that is thicker than that, I usually start with a chain of 19. The multiple for this pattern is 4+3 if that helps.

You mentioned you did a skinnier scarf chaining 19. Did you start on the 5th chain from the hook? Your response would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I get it, brain-fart. Thanks so much for your help!

In the first row, you're working the (2 DC, ch 1, 2 DC). When you do the second row, you're putting the same (2DC, ch 1, 2 DC) in the space where the ch 1 was in the first row.

Have you tried to do it yet or are you just confused by the written directions? If you've not started it yet, do the first row and then you'll see what I'm talking about in the second row. It's really not hard.

  • Anni12/18/2010

Gosh, I'm sorry. One space from the previous row? I know how to crochet I'm just not familiar with that terminology

  • Marie Anne St. Jean12/18/2010

Anni, in each ch 1 sp from the previous row, you're going to work (2 DC, ch 1, 2 DC)

I'm having trouble interpreting the second row directions. So the pattern 2DC,ch,2DC in Each? skip one in between? I'm not sure.
