she said the older poems were the best

and that somehow

I had lost that touch

the work was not not so personal anymore

she said

and that many of my references

and suggestions were slightly ambiguous

too deep

she said

in defense

maybe she needs glasses

maybe she needs to open up her horizons

to see beyond the mundane

and the obvious

reach out and touch someone

intellectually, perhaps

not everything I write is about you

or your mother

or your dog

should you have one.
