One True Version of the Bible?

Annagail Lynes
Why do people believe the King James Version is the only true version of the Bible?

The Bible was written on scrolls many centuries before King James had the 1611 King James Version of the Bible translated.

As human beings, King James and the men who helped him translate the Bible were not infallible. Especially when his version is compared with the earlier Hebrew and Greek versions.

Many believe that other translations have changed the words of the Bible, thus violating what the twenty-second chapter of Revelation (verses 18-19) warns us not to do. However I believe (and I could be wrong) God is saying in Revelation not to add more things to the Bible and call it God.

For instance, some religions have added chapters and verses to the Bible that were not God inspired. One religion has even added another book that they call a companion to the Bible. Others have created their own variation of the King James Version of the Bible that has been adapted to their religion. And they all call it God and say that He inspired it.

There is only one Bible that is God-inspired (II Timothy 3:16). Only one that is sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Only one that is powerful and able to divide between spirit and soul (Hebrews 4:12). Only one.

Some religions don't teach the whole Bible. They don't teach healing (Romans 8:11, Isaiah 53:4-5, I Peter 2:24), prosperity (Psalm 35:27), speaking in tongues (Romans 8:26) or miracles (Luke 1:37, Philippians 4:19). Some only teach salvation. Others only teach water baptism.

We cannot pick and choose what parts of the Bible to believe. We must believe all of it. It is all God-inspired, But it must be taken as it was originally stated and not as one man's interpretation of it.

Is the King James Version the only Bible? Is it a sin to use another translation?

The King James Version is not the only version. Jesus read from Isaiah in the book of Luke. This was long before the King James Version came into existence.

Jesus didn't read from the official King James Version, so according to King James Version advocates, He must have sinned. We know this is not the case, though. We know that He was blameless and without sin.

We should use whatever version we are comfortable with as long as we are reading the Bible.

I believe the King James Version movement is another way Satan is using to divide the body of Christ. He comes in with petty issues, such as what version of the Bible is the right one or how long our hair should be or how many times a day we should confess the Word.

He wants us doing things that sound spiritual, but in reality, are things that are keeping us in bondage. The very thing that Jesus died to set us free from (Romans 8:15).

The devil tries to keep us in bondage. He does it in ways that are so subtle that we don't even notice, such as the King James Version only controversy.

The devil wants us bound to a Bible we cannot understand. And we believe that the Bible is more spiritual with the thees and thous. We have gotten the impression that God speaks like that. And He doesn't.

The devil also convinces us to do spiritual things like reading x number of chapters of the Bible a day or praying x number of hours. Even though these things are spiritually sound, the more we make this a hard and fast rule, the more we are doing it just to check it off our to-do list.

We must be free to read what God wants us to read. To pray what God wants us to pray. To go where God wants us to go. We cannot be bound to legalism and strict rules in our lives.

All of this controversy is a ploy by Satan to distract us from studying the Word of God for ourselves. Then we will not know what we have a right to as children of the Most High God. Satan tries to bury us in thees and thous just as lawyers and shrewd business people try to bury people in legalese so they won't know what they are entitled to or what they are signing away.

When we don't know our rights as God's children, we live way below where we should be. We settle for poverty, lack, sickness, disease, depression and mental problems.

We believe that the riches of God for us are actually evil and of the devil. That it is the devil who wants us rich, healthy and of a sound mind. Why on Earth would he want that when he only comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10)?

Only God wants us to be prosperous, to be healthy, to be sane, to be whole, but as long as we are focused on what version of the Bible to use, we will not know that. We will not study it for ourselves.

We need to study the Bible. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to teach us (John 14:26) as we read it, to guide us into all truth concerning the Scriptures.

If a word or phrase is confusing, we should look it up in the Greek for the New Testament and the Hebrew for the Old Testament. We can find a Bible resource to help us with this online at http://www.crosswalk.com. From here, we can see what that word or phrase means in the original language.

Also we should check other translations, especially the Amplified, for a clearer meaning.

The goal here is not to argue over which translation is best but to study the Word of God for ourselves. As long as we are reading the Word and asking the Holy Spirit to teach us, we will never be steered wrong.

There are 2 different texts from which all bibles are translated. One text, the Authorized Text, comes from over 5220 manuscripts which all agree with each other, no contradictions at all. This is the Text from which the KJV is translated from. The other Text, the Minority Text, comes from about 44 manuscripts which contradict and disagree with each other everywhere. When this Text was compiled, men had to choose which of the contradicting manuscripts to follow and at times made up words to try to make sense of them all. This is the text that every other bible inc. the Roman Catholic bible comes from. Who are you going to believe? the Popes bible or the one that transformed the world and brought it out of the dark ages, the KJV?

Will closed minds ever know the truth? Most "religious people" spread fear and hate of the "other" which anything different than themselves.

I agree with you mostly except, I think we all must be careful and try to dicern what one to read. Although I read the KJV, the fact that it was handed down through the Roman sect bothers me because who knows if they did not intrepret it to suit their own governing system.
I don't believe that any of the Bibles in print today are completely the purest of what we should read. However, when I do take a stand on the Holy scriptures, it really has worked for my life to make change. Cyn

to clarify a clerical mistake I made it says early manuscripts took the verse out.

I came across this verse that was missing today
Romans 16:24 (New American Standard Bible)
    New American Standard Bible (NASB)
    Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation
I came across this verse missing today and in the NIV it is completely erased out of the foot notes. Many claims about the KJV and other versions could be true. However, I came across Galatians 5:22 and Ephesians 2:24. apparently ephesians 2:24 changes the word the fruit of the spirit to the light of the spirit. However, its not like that verse is completley out of the Bible considering considering you can find the fruit of the spirit in Galatians 5:22. Whats wrong with it being the light of the spirit? It deffinetly dosn't take my focus off of Jesus. On the other hand this verse below is missing from the NIV, this is the NASV that says its in the footnotes. So, the "grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you" why would they take away that verse? Its a con

Ms Lynes does not understand the history of the Bible. The fact that it even exists with all the attempts to destroy it shows how important it is. The Book of Revelations was written years before other parts of the New Testament. I believe that adding to John's written revelation was forbidden or subtracting from it either.

Other translations besides the King James are available and can help understand diificult passages, but as stated, some groups have substantially changed passages or deleted verses that conflict with their claims. I believe God will let his children know what is really true by His Holy Spirit.

Excellent, excellent article. Very well-written. This has been a real irritant to me in dealing with some of my fellow Christians, especially some in my family who subscribe to the "KJV is the only true version" belief. Thanks for the great read.
