One, Two, Three: A Monumental Finish for Richard Childress Racing

One, Two, Three; A monumental finish for Richard Childress Racing and the first win for Chevrolet in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. For the first time in the history of Richard Childress Racing, they have accomplished a One, Two, Three finish at one of the toughest tracks around, thanks to Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, and Clint Bowyer. Bristol Motor Speedway is a track that can leave one car or a dozen cars in shambles because there is no room to spare on this half-mile track. A fact that was proven to us with just three laps to go, as Kevin Harvick lost control of his number 29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet and sent Tony Stewart spinning into the wall.

A mistake that Harvick admitted to in post race interview where he stated he had gotten loose and lost it up the track taking out Tony. Stewart was not so pleasant afterwards. He was quite hostile in his interview saying that some how it will turn out to be his fault and he was sorry he got in the way. This was right before he stormed off camera. Now this was all in the heat of the moment and no one likes to see their car torn up much less in the last couple laps but come on... this is Bristol. Maybe he had better head back to those anger management classes.

The Food City 500 was rough on the NASCAR Sprint Cup series teams where only 14 cars finished on the lead lap, which is not uncommon for this track. The first caution of the day was at lap 50. It was a planned competition caution that they drivers and teams had be informed about during the drivers meeting that morning. The caution was so that the teams could check the tire wear due to the heavy overnight rains that washed the rubber from the track. A few spins and some debris brought out a couple more cautions but for the most part this one fairly uneventful race by Bristol standards and what we have to expect from this track.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is heading into an off-week. Hopefully, it will be enough time for Stewart to cool down and put his big girl panties on.

Great reporting. Personally, I was pulling for Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, or Jarrett, but it was so great to see Burton win!
