Onimusha Movie, Based on Capcom video game, Slashing Its Way to Theaters in 2009
Christophe Gans will be teaming up again with Samuel Hadida's Davis Films to direct the Onimusha Movie. The two worked together previously on the successful Silent Hill movie that earned over $20M domestically on its opening weekend and nearly doubled its $50M production budget worldwide, according to figures released by Box Office Mojo.
In an interview from Screendaily International, Gans had this to say about helming the Onimusha movie project: "I have loved the Onimusha story for years and am overjoyed to have the opportunity now to bring it to life for worldwide film audiences and to access the unparalleled film resources of China to do so on the scale that the story demands."
The Onimusha movie it set to have at least a $70M budget.
"I have worked with Christophe (Gans) on three successful productions and am confident that he brings the ideal vision to realize this incredible story," said Hadida about tapping Christophe Gans to direct the film in the aforementioned story from Screendaily International.
The Onimusha video games have been long running best sellers on the Sony Playstation game systems. They are about the 16th century samurai title character Onimusha, who is destined to protect mankind from hordes of demons that are prophesied to invade the world. Onimusha is known for its epic storylines that blend historical elements of feudal Japan with fictitious characters, fantasy, magic and insane action sequences.
While shopping the film to prospective movie studios in Cannes, Hadida offered the following to Screendaily International, "There is nothing else in the marketplace like Onimusha. It combines swashbuckling adventure, passion, and heroic destiny on an epic scale."
The duo of Leslie Kruger and John Collee (who also wrote the Master and Commander script) are currently writing the screenplay for the film.
It is unknown whether or not Jean Reno (The Da Vinci Code, Hotel Rwanda) who voiced one of the major characters in the Onimusha 3: Demon Siege video game for the PS2 will be approached for this picture. It does however seem unlikely since the Jean Reno character from Onimusha 3 game was set in the modern day world.
Thus far no actors have been signed to star in the Onimusha movie project.

Post a Commentif they are serious about making the movie then i hope they follow through with it better than the resident evil movies. the resident evil movies were good but the writers didn't stay with the original story.
Also hopefully the creators of the game at capcom will make a 5th game to the onimusha saga since there is no way this series can possibly end until about the 7th game, could it?

If it's not a rumor it should be a descent movie. I'm still waiting for the 5th Onimusha game. I know the creators have given the series a chance to follow through with the storyline from the 4th game.

Kassidy you've got to check out the games they are benchmarks for the ps2. Im 30 now so I should'nt be so excited about a movie but I cant wait.

Christophe Gans should hire some Japanese screenwriters to adapt the script
instead od John Collee doing it.
But Gans and Davis Films and there also will be a Japanese film companies Gaga Communications and Capcom and Kadokawa Pictures might get involved on the picture plus there will be Chinese filmmakers to work with the production team as well.
The plot will be based on Onimusha Warlords games and the movie will have the Japanese actors in the film.

Onimusha would make a great movie, if not a great series of movies. If they make a trilogy, the third installment would lend itself well to the big screen. Although it's kind of weird time traveling story. The third game starring French actor Jean Reno feels like a movie already.
