How to Shop Online
One of the hardest parts of purchasing bikes online is knowing exactly what you want. If you are a frequent rider you probably have the exact bike picked out in a local store. Perhaps you have even been frequenting the store just to check up and make sure they haven't sold it. If you haven't done this go ahead. Your not cheating by checking out a bike locally then purchasing online. You are just being a smart shopper. Another option is using www.mazlow.com to help learn about specific bikes and their specs.
The Sure Bet (www.rei.com)
One great place to buy (although the deals may not be the greatest) is REI.com. They carry a wide variety of bikes plus you can always return anything no questions asked. So if you are no quite sure to go with a Marin or a Mongoose this maybe a good option. They carry Novara, Marin, Cannondale, K2, Scott and GT.
A Used Bike (www.ebay.com)
If you are not looking for the latest model but know what you like check out Ebay.com. Often times bikers are upgrading and need to get rid of an older model of a bike. They sell cheap to liquidate. Just be sure to see what they are asking for shipping. At ebay you can essentially find any make, model or size if you catch it at the right time.
A Resource (www.onlinebikedeals.com)
A favorite of mine is onlinebikedeals.com. You don't actually purchase bikes from this site. Rather it is used like side step as an avenue to find great bike deals at a variety of online dealers. It is very similar to pricegrapper.com but is used exclusively for bikes. The disadvantage here is usually the bikes on this site are mid to low quality and are not meant for extreme riders.
A Narrow Selection (www.bikesdirect.com)
Bikes Direct offers some great deals but they carry only a narrow selection of bikes. Most of the bike they are carry are not as well known of searched after but this is definitely a place to check out if you are looking for a lesser know name. Some brands they carry are Alivio, Deore and XTR.
One Last Stop (sportymamabikes.com)
Sporty Mama Bikes also has some great deals. They have a wide range of low to mid-high bikes suitable for most riders. They can come with a warranty and free shipping.
Best of luck finding the perfect ride as you suited up for the spring!
