In the vicious world of online marketing, separating yourself from the competition is a key to survival. Many entrepreneurs fail to do this still and that is your advantage because the more that you can differentiate yourself from your opponents the better.

Whether you're writing with search engine optimization in mind or not you have to ensure that if a customer visits your website they have a reason to view yours above your competition.

When a potential customer searches for something online they will often be inundated with a barrage of various websites to visit and products to choose from. Often they will only visit the first few on Google's search results and, because of this, the value of your Google pagerank cannot be understated. If you aren't lucky enough to crack the front page of Google then you have to ensure that you take full advantage of every visit to your site.

Differentiating yourself from the competition can be very simple but how and why do you do it. A customer can visit a dozen pages on teeth whitening products and they may all appear the same. If that's the case then said customer is going to be frustrated trying to make a decision. If your product stands out from the competition or offers something that your competitors don't these are the types of things that will help sway that customer in your direction.

Differentiating your website from the others in your niche can be very straightforward and not nearly as daunting as it may seem at first glance. It can be something as simple as offering free shipping to your customers. Free shipping in the online world is a huge advantage and due to the increased sales it provides. The shipping costs may eat into your profits but it is often more than made up for in the amount of sales that you make.

Free shipping is not always possible, depending on your product, and is not the only way of differentiating yourself from your competitors. You can separate your product simply by selling it to a different group of consumers. Elevating your product by specifying what areas it helps or what group of people it is useful for can make you stand out. Most entrepreneurs market their product to the general public and while you should still do this, targeting a specific niche can help as well. A customer searching for discount auto parts may choose your website out of luck, but a customer searching for a specific part that you advertise is more likely to choose your product since you cater to that specific search.

There are dozens of ways to differentiate yourself from your competitors and finding these ways can increase your profit margin dramatically. Finding ways to separate yourself isn't as difficult as it may sound. Spend a few hours in a local shopping mall and look at the ways various businesses market to their customers. Simple things such as same-day shipping, buy one get one free, or any of a number of proven successful marketing tactics can prove just as valuable online.

Using proven sales tactics and differentiating yourself from the other online businesses is one of the strongest ways to ensure that you make the sales over your competition. Follow these simple guidelines to boost your sales and keep your profit margins rising!
