The Portland Journal
Taking the proverbial p*ss can come in many forms when it comes to online scammers, but you would least wish to be taken for a ride and made to look like a complete mug when all you wish to do is find yourself a new partner.

Hey people it is not just the guys who are falling for these gold-digger scammers, it is not just the ladies who are looking to be making a quick buck from online dating, it is the men also so be very vigilant.

There are some obvious things to look out for with the dating scam, and well if things seem too good to be true as the saying goes, then it probably is!

One definite warning sign should be somebody who has photo's that make them look like a super model, okay there are probably genuine girls and guys out there in the modeling industry looking for love... but using places like Tagged, MySpace, Bebo, Facebook and several dating sites would probably be the last place these models are looking for love.

If you do get a message from someone who is very much looking like a model, start doing some digging... a genuine person looking for dating will have very genuine motives and have genuine information, and would almostcertainly not be approaching your email inbox. Most importantly take your time, wait it out... the real warning comes when your VISA Card details are being required for booking a flight or a mysterious operation and medical needs.

There are more than one country these gold digging scammers are operating from, Russia, China, African countries, America and the UK just being a few, so it is not all that easy to pinpoint by location.

There are places you can look for further information and report possible gold-digger scams, sharing what you know can help others, in turn someone may also be able to help you. There are more and more of these dating scams being reported every day. Info presented at the end of this article.

You will find dating scams appearing in your email also, be very wary of unsolicited requests for dating, especially those who are telling you that they have been looking at your profile and like what they see. This is almost certainly a scam.

There are some quite funny scammers but equally so there are the more malicious people out there who are after more than just a confirmed email address to send piles of junk mail to, there are those who will rob you of your identity and your money. They will disappear into the night leaving you more than just heartbroken.
