Online dating has increased in tremendously over the past few years. More and more people are meeting as a result of the Internet. With all the social networking sites, online personals, and chat rooms it has become more and more popular. As with most things with the good comes the bad. Not everyone is trustworthy or honest. Although online communication is exciting you have to take certain precautions. In this article I hope to provide some tips to help you in your online dating experience.

Be careful giving out personal information. Its always best not to share too much about your personal information. Not everyone can be trusted and some will try to exploit you. Some people could be dangerous and cannot be trusted.

Be honest with the person you are communicating with. Don't make yourself out to be something you are not. Using a picture thats 10 years old is deceiving. If you do use an old picture let the other person know. Describing yourself as having money when you don't is not being honest. If a person really likes you they will not care anything about your financial situation or the way you look. If the relationship develops into something serious the other person will feel deceived if you lied about things even if it was just a white lie.

There will come a time you will want to communicate by phone. I suggest you use a cell phone and do most of your conversations at night when the minutes are free. Its too easy to run up a large phone bill and if the relationship doesn't work out than you have a huge phone bill to pay for. Plus using a cell phone is not as easy to find personal information from. Don't use your regular phone just yet.

Watch for probing questions that ask too much personal information. For example if the conversation asks if you own your own home etc they are trying to find out your financial information. Its best to keep the conversations light for awhile. If you sense any red flags that cause you concern terminate the relationship before its too late.

If you plan on meeting in person meet in a public place. Better yet is to take a friend along with you. Let the other person know that you will be bringing someone along. Let them know they can do the same. If you have to travel to meet make sure you do not meet at the place you are staying. Meet in a public place agreed upon. Its always best to be safe than sorry even if you fully trust the other person.

An online relationship can be very exciting and fulfilling even if its only a friendship. You will make many friends and acquaintances online. So don't allow one bad apple to spoil it for you. Some people think online is just fantasy and a place for them to play around. They may have a wife or husband at home and they are not honest about it. Just be mindful of these and just move on. Those type are dime a dozen.
