Online Entertainment Gift Ideas for Teens and Tweens

Music, Video Game Rental, MMORPG, and Virtual Society Gift Ideas for Teens and Tweens

Buying gifts that will actually be enjoyed and appreciated by kids can be difficult, especially for the tween and teen groups. Gift cards can be an excellent choice for this group but some people are reluctant to give such impersonal gifts. One idea that is a great gist for these age groups is a gift of on-line entertainment. Although it may still seem as impersonal as a generic gift card, in reality it is more like buying them games and cd's, but giving them the freedom to choose what they like. You can give them something that will provide hours of enjoyment and personalize it to their interests.

For the music lover, a gift certificate to a music download site is great. These age groups, in particular, are used to downloading individual songs rather than buying compact discs. It can be like giving them cd's except they will have a huge catalog of music to choose from and they can choose the songs they like. Sites like iTunes.com, Amazon.com, or Rhapsody.com offer individual songs for less than a dollar so an online music gift doesn't need to be expensive.

If the teen or tween on your list is into video games, online entertainment can be a great gift alternative. Many teens and tweens like to rent games before they buy them or rent them instead of buying them. A brick and mortar store such as Blockbuster or online stores such as Netflix.com or Gamefly.com offer reasonable game rental prices. You can choose a gift card for so many game rentals or purchase some subscription time in an monthly rental program.

In addition to renting games, many teens and tweens play games on-line. MMORPG's (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) are very popular with this age group. Some require a monthly fee to play and some are free to play, but most have an aspect of the game that depends on micro-transactions, small real money purchases for in-game upgrades. You can either purchase a few months of subscription time, purchase a gift card that will let the player unlock special game areas and unique gear, or both. This is a very popular trend in gaming right now and one any teen or tween is sure to appreciate. Some popular online games include World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings, or Free Realms. For younger players Wizard 101 is a great alternative that allows parental control and has restricted player-to-player chat.

For younger tweens or for a child not into traditional gaming there are many dolls, action figures, and plush figures that come with codes to join on-line virtual societies. Some of these include Webkinz, Neopets, Ty Beanies, and Build-A-Bear. These sites offer a chance to create characters and housing, buy furniture and clothes, play games and earn in-game money, and frequently include an educational aspect. These sites are typically protected and safe and a great way to give a younger child a chance to join in the online fun.

A gift of on-line entertainment for a tween or teen can be a great way to avoid giving a generic gift card, while still giving them something fun and useful. This age group is used to using the Internet for many of their entertainment needs and an on-line entertainment gift will be perfect for them. Whether you choose downloadable music, game rental, on-line gaming, or a virtual online society you can find an online entertainment gift to suit the interests of almost any tween or teen.
