Online Gambling: Not Worth the Risk

unknown
The recent banning of online gambling came a little too late for me. This summer I got really into online gambling. As I started losing money, I would try to win back and play with money I could not afford losing. In the end, I would be flat out broke and filled with deep regret, and have learned one of the biggest lessons of my life, which is to avoid gambling at all costs, period. That is why I am writing this article, so maybe someone will give me a nice offer to publish it, and maybe help me in getting out of debt.

I am only 19 years old, a college student. It started this summer at the U.S Naval Academy. I was taking summer courses and often had a lot of free time on my hand. Started to play for fun, making an ocasionally 50$ deposit on Partypoker.com. As the summer ended, I had probably lost 200$ total. Once the Academic year started, my roommate and I both started to play together. He new his limits. I did not. I was constantly making 50$ deposits, trying to win big bucks. I had roughly 1000$ in my bank account at this time.

In the next few weeks, I stopped playing at Party Poker and tried a new site called Absolute Poker. I made a 50$ deposit one day, and in a few days I was up to about 230$. I felt like I was finally figuring out how to play and make money. However, one night I started losing again. I lost about 50$, tried to win it from blackjack, and ended up losing it all. I was so upset. Blackjack would soon doom me forever. I started to play blackjack, making 200$ deposits, and betting 10-20$ a hand. At this point it had gotten out of control. I made deposit after deposit, losing and still hoping I could win it back.

A few days later, I had a -90$ balance in my checking account. My roommates had told me about this, and were always pressing for me to give up online gambling. I was ashamed of myself. How would I tell my family, friends, and my girlfriend that I had blown over $1500 to online gambling?

Within a week or two, the government was pushing hard to ban online gambling. This will probably be the biggest regret of my life. You can't win in online gambling, and you cannot make a living off of it. No one should ever gamble with money they cannot afford to lose.

haha you people are just bad players. I put 1, count that, 1 Deposit in my online poker account at sportsbook.com. First of all, the site you play matters, and well the two you named in this article are known for being possibly rigged. Also, how much did you study? How many books did you buy? Were you expecting to make a grand off 50 bucks playing cash games? Have you ever heard of bankroll management, or pot-odds? Did you think about tourney play or STT's? Lastly, Did you use any methods to play for free or to increase your bankroll(various bonus')?

I started poker with 100 dollars, and thankfully it and smart gambling have given me something to look forward to in life. That hundred dollars played right lasted me 3 months winning a very small amounts to pay for buy-ins to any tournament under 5 dollars. After placing in a satellite to a $10,000 guaranteed tourney; I played great poker and with a little luck I placed first winning $3,260 out of the 10k for everyone. This was huge t

I lost $100.00 before I learned the lesson you learned, and more. You might read my article, "Why it's stupid to play online poker!"

Your complaining about 1500?! I just lost 7,000 in 25 minutes. You got lucky, your greed did not match your credit limit. BTW I am 18.
