Finding in-store layaway is not as easy as it once was. Online layaway though, is available for everyone. There are two online layaway sites available, each with different benefits and plans.
Lay-away.com is one of two major online layaway sites. A down payment is required and consists of a sixth of the full price of the item. You then have six months at the most to pay off the item and must allow a monthly payment to be deducted from your account. This online layaway site will charge you $35 if you do not make a payment for over a month. The only merchandise available is what is on their site though they do suggest sending an email if you find something you would like that is not on their site and they will see if they can work out an online layaway plan.
Another online layaway retailer is elayaway.com. This online layaway site has more options than lay-away.com. Not only can you shop from their site but you can also shop through any of their associated merchants. There are many different items to choose from such as furniture, electronics and jewelry. Elayaway.com does charge a 1.9% financing fee, which is not returned if you do not pay, along with a $25 restocking fee. There are many options and a longer term available with this online layaway retailer.
Online layaway is a great way to help you save for gifts for holidays, birthdays, or just that game console you have been wanting but cannot afford to pay for right now. Also, even elayaway.com's 1.9% financing fee is much cheaper than what you would pay a credit card. In addition, online layaway does not affect your credit, if you do not pay, you are charged any applicable fees, and you do not receive the item.
Do not forget stores that offer in-store layaway plans, such as Sears or Kmart, if you would like to purchase the item from a local store.
Check out online layaway to help with your holiday shopping this year!
