However, now that we have the internet, we can book reservations, compare prices, buy tickets, view landmarks, and communicate with other travelers and visit web sites of museums, amusement parks and shopping districts, view virtual tours, video, and travelogues. Vacation planning has become so easy because of the internet, and unfortunately, vacation planning online can jeopardize ones safety and security.
The internet can make going places on your vacation easy. You can decide where to eat by booking reservations on restaurants' web sites, decide what tours to take, and what shopping places to visit. One can easily plan his or her vacation, concerning where to go and what to do down to the T. However, this can interfere with the true travel experience. Vacations should be relaxed and spontaneous as well as planned. Even though so much about your travel destination is online, do not plan every aspect of your vacation by what you see on the internet. Allow yourself to have some free time for doing things that just suddenly appeal to you or visiting places that you may see after coming to your travel destination but did not see online.
For instance, an acquaintance went on vacation to Los Angeles. She was visiting all the places that she had planned ahead to see. Then while walking along she found a little old museum. She went inside and found it to be just as interesting as the big museum down town.
So when planning your vacation leave some free time for things that just come up. Take long walks, go for a bus ride, go to non tourist attraction. You would be surprised at whet you see.
When using the internet to plan a vacation many people completely forget that what they put on the internet is public. Details about your vacation can get into the hands of bad guys.
For instance, you may post some question about your trip on an online travel forum or blog, or you may be an active member of a chat or have a Facebook and / or Twitter account where you freely tell fellow members, fans, friends about the details of your life. If you leave too much information, such as travel destination date and time when you are leaving, date and time when you are returning; where you plan to stay, and places you plan to visit, you are providing enough information for someone to use to plan a robbery of your home and /or impersonate you.
Following are solutions to avoid this problem. When visiting travel blogs and forums do not use your real name nor give any indication of your residency. On your Facebook and Twitter account do not post any information about your plans to go on vacation. Tell yours friends and followers about your vacation and post your pictures and videos after you return from it.
The internet has taken a lot of hassle out of vacation planning, saving time and money. However, do not allow your online activity to dominate your vacation. Be unstructured, footloose, and fancy free, and be cautious about sharing information about your vacation plans online.
