Is your Idea within Video Site TOS?
So are you ready to start making videos & posting it on YouTUbe or Google Video? Wait just yet. One should familiarize with the rules, terms of service given by the sites first. Read them & refer them to the video idea that you have in mind. Is your video idea going to be allowed on the site? Don't waste hours or even days making videos that are simply going to be disallowed on the public video sites. Prohibited content will be listed in the TOS so make sure your idea is in the clear. Some online video websites will have content restrictions, while others have less or none at all. Find the ones that suit your idea best as there is a chance that at least one public video site will accept your idea. Those restrictions may include the use of pornographic material, violence, & racial hatred. Up to the present, there is no pornography on YouTube & Google Video. Probably some folks have tried to post illicit material but before long, such videos are taken off the site.
Video Makers Responsibility
Now that you have read the video site's TOS (Terms of Service), you are free to produce videos that are within its boundaries. Being free does not mean being irresponsible. Video makers have the responsibility (although it's not written but understood as human values) to not produce content that may intentionally or unintentionally insult a video viewer. You are perhaps ranting about how you read the lengthy TOS & developed your idea to fit in it, & now you must be concerned about the viewer too? Well, people are going to watch your video. Without considering people, who else are going to view your videos? So be patient, your video is going to be great! Political & religious rants, jokes about popular issues are considered the avant garde of film making as it can evoke instant emotions. So be careful of how you make it.
Many Offensive Videos Posted
Do you want to know why you should be concerned about what other people think? Well, you are definitely not alone. On video sites, there are many videos that can be considered extremely offensive. They are people who don't care about other people's opinions. Their videos could be offending, insulting, & hurtful but they care no less for who they hurt. Some people have become used to seeing so many offensive videos that they cannot do anything else but leave a piece of their mind in the video review section. In fact, you can read plenty of profanity & curses in the video reviews! Others simply stop seeing the videos of the producer all together. Of course one cannot satisfy all the viewers but an effort should be made to keep as many people tuned in to one's video production. It makes one think why such people bother to post extremely offensive videos in the first place. It seem like the producer is being selfish & thoughtless to me.
Provide Early Warning Notifications on Video
Perhaps you think that your video might offend a particular group of people but it's so wonderfully directed that you consider it a work of art to be shared with others. Well, the least one could do is to provide a warning in the video about its contents & that it may, although not its purpose, contain offensive material to some parties. You would be protecting yourself & also the particular viewer/viewers who do not want to watch the forewarned content of your video. A Happy video making experience to video enthusiasts everywhere!
Conclusion
Online video websites, such as Google Video and YouTube, allow you to watch videos that other internet users have posted, but you can also make and share your own videos. Sounds like fun doesn't it? Before you start making plans, you are advised to keep your video content in mind, especially the impact it may have on others. Also, your account could be flagged & suspended for posting content outside the terms of service provided by YouTube or Google Video.
