What can you even begin to compare it to?
How do you describe the wonder and awe,
That a child brings you even before birth?
To know that there is a being so tiny,
Not even visible to the naked eye.
A being that has been created out of love
To come forth into this world to be loved.
From the first faint flutter of movement,
To the full force kicks that nearly double you over.
Feeling the growth of someone so special,
Whom you will be guardian over for a lifetime.
To experience the first twinges of his arrival
Which soon become the welcome burden of pain
Then hearing his cries of discontent
At being thrust out into a world so unsecure.
Feeling your heart swell with pride
At what Mother and nature have accomplished.
The tears of welcome relief at the sight of him
Stream down your cheeks.
Only a Mother can know how it feels,
How she loves from the first moment.
Never dreaming that when she sets her eyes on him,
That love will increase to an unbearable pain.
A Mother will die for her child in that moment.
But she never dreams that he will die before her.
Only a Mother can know the pain of love and loss
For her youngest son, whose lifetime ended too soon.
