Onondaga Lake Park

Onondaga Lake Park is a beautiful place near the city of Syracuse. Just outside of Syracuse in Liverpool, is this fun park to visit with your friends, your family, or by yourself. This is the sort of park that a person could spend all of their spare time at for a summer, and still have more to discover. I really like Onondaga Lake Park, and the park workers like me, too. You will like Onondaga Lake Park, and you will enjoy yourself there, even if you are having a terrible day otherwise. Something about this place is magical, I forget the legend of the lake, exactly, however, someone who works at the park knows the legend of why the Onondaga Lake is a mythical place that wipes away tears.

There is a lake for boating, there are walking trails, there are plenty of restrooms, there are museums, there is a dog park, there is a refreshment stand, there is a shuttle bus, this park has just about everything that anyone could ask for. Onondaga Lake Park has a picnic area available for rental, and there are numerous benches by the lake. It is a few blocks away from fast food parlors, the town center, including the public library, and Onondaga Lake Park is a fantastic place to be, whether in a group, with a few people, or solo. One of the trails is generally used by pedestrians, the other trail is generally used by bicyclists. There is plenty of room for more people at this beautiful, superbly maintained park facility.

You can bring your dog to the Wegman's Dog Park, which is on the west end of the park, a place that is about the closest thing to an actual amusement park for your canine friend that I have seen, and best of all, it is free.

The refreshments trailer is also located on the west end of the park, and is managed as well as staffed by people who care enough to spend ten bucks per day for local, hydroponically grown tomatoes for their sandwiches. The manager told me to wait while the coffee was brewing, and I was able to listen to this inside tip told to me prior to the tomato scare being known about by everyone.

One trail is even open year-round, when it becomes both the bicycling trail and the walking trail. The park workers keep this open during the winter - I am not sure about what the boating rules are during the winter, however, the park workers and the librarians at the Liverpool Public Library will be certain to tell you about what the boating rules are.

The east end of the park hosts the Salt Museum, and some more playgrounds for children. There is a trolley, that in this day and age, operates on the honor system of payment, that will take us and all our buddies around the park during daytime hours, for cash, or even for a promise of cash, around Onondaga Lake Park.

Onondaga Lake Park is part of the Finger Lakes - there's the Salt Museum, the Sainte Marie Museum, the Wegman's Good Dog Park, and there is an excellent refreshment truck, which is locally-owned. There are events happening at this park every week, sometimes every day. The Liverpool Public Library offers a narrated tram ride of this park, sometimes, although, not on a daily basis.

I love Onondaga Lake Park, and you probably will, too. There is a lot about Onondaga State Park to be discovered.
