One of the good features of Onslaught is the fact that it only has a few basic towers: a cannon, a laser, a rocket launcher, and a taser. However, the complexity of the game comes from being able to create combinations of the towers within close proximity to each other to create various more powerful weapons. Modifier towers are also available starting at various levels within the game that increase the damage, range, or firing rate of towers within it's range to modify. The game offers various maps for the player to test their skills on. Some maps are easier than others, owing to the distance each wave has to travel across the screen to get to the base.
With the release of version 2.1, multiple difficulty levels have also been added instead of just one. There are also built in challenge modes that can be played with the goal of completing a certain number of levels with various game modifiers, or trying to reach a certain number of kills in the fastest time, etc. One feature that sets this tower defense game apart from many others in its class is the map editor. with the map editor the user has the ability to create paths for the enemies to travel down in their own custom game.
Basic strategy is to build towers in such a way that you can create the most damage to an individual enemy. The waves are unlimited but their health points of each enemy follows an almost geometric progression. This means that at one point the enemies will have more health points than the user can possibly build towers to destroy. So of the player can slow down the enemies sufficiently and place towers effectively, that is by far the best strategy. The greatest amount of damage in the game can actually be achieved by using laser towers chained together so that one tower contributes its damage to its neighbors, which is then multiplied as it goes down the chain. This strategy might not be the best when playing some of the challenge games that rely on speed, and the goal is not simply to get as far as possible in the game.
Happy gaming....
