Most of us eat when we can see but some of us never can see. Now everyone can know what it is like to eat in the dark thanks to the popular Opaque restaurants. There are three Opaque restaurant one in San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Fransisco. I would imagine they are all pretty much the same but we will be looking at the Los Angeles one in this article.

The Los Angeles Opaque is located at 2020 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica, California. You are probably thinking that the idea of dinning in the dark is crazy and you are not alone. While it may sound odd the Opaque restaurants are very popular and very hot right now.

One of my first concerns was that they may not let me know what I was eating. Fortunately they give you plenty of choices with the choice of four different entrees and then choices on the other dishes. The choices are a bit limited compared to somewhere you can read your own menu at but were longer then expected considering I did not know you even got a food choice.

Supposedly your waiters are blind but I am not sure if that is true or not because it is to dark to see anything. While eating in the dark sounds odd it is an interesting experience. Most of your brains processing is focused on sight so you have much more brain power by eliminating sight. Your other senses are certainly enhanced a bit as you eat in the dark. There is an obvious sensual experience to the whole thing but it is more then that. The idea is that you will be able to savor the food better as well as have a new way to look at the world.

The food is good but could be that your sense of flavor is enhanced or it could also just be suggestion. Even tactile sense seems enhanced as you have to rely on it. the experience must be shared it would be odd alone.Opaque does make for a unique and fun date.

The food is expensive at $100 and you are paying a premium for the experience. The problem I have is I could eat the same high quality food for half the price and I could eat any food in the dark at home. While it is easier having people give you the food and having complete darkness in a special place I think you could approximate the same experience at home.

If you have the money then I would suggest you try it. If you can hardly afford a nice meal that is $50 a plate I would suggest holding off or trying to copy the experience at home.
