Open Letter From a Son

Mudslinger
Dear Dad,
If you are reading this then I didn't make it back from our last mission. Everyone writes these letters hopeing that they never get mailed home.

Dad, I know that you didn't want me to join the Army. But you told me to be my own man. You fought in Vietnam and said that you were just doing your duty for your country. I felt that serving my country was my duty. I wanted to be just like my hero, "You."

I tried to be a soldier that you would be proud of. There are just some things that I don't understand. Last week we all received a letter from a group back home telling us to refuse to fight in President Bush's war. Why is it his war? Have the people forgotten about nine eleven so soon. Have they forgotten the lives that were lost in the Trade Centers or the true heros in that field in Pennsylvania. I don't understand how anyone could seeing the people jump from the Towers. I could never forget the picture of the lady that jumped. She was someone's daughter, wife or mother. We are not here fighting for our safety but we are here fighting the American people's rights and safety. We are here so that they can sit in their home and voice any opinion both public and private. These people over here have no rights and no opinion.

I guess that the American people have a short memory. they have just had it to good for so long. I wish that I could understand this but I can't seem to get it. I do know that it is better to fight on the streets over here than the streets of my hometown. It is hard to think of a war in the USA. I bet the same people that are holding back supplies and the ones that are calling us killers would be begging us to protect them. You can bet that a soldier would be there. We know that we are expendable so we do our job to the best of our ability. I wish that everyone knew that they don't have to love us just showing a little respect is all it takes. I hope and pray that those at home never have to know what war really is.

Well, Dad things go on. If one night you see a soldier pass the window. Don't be alarmed, for it will just be me watching over you. I love you Dad. Thank you for raising me to be a man.

Love from your son,
