Open Plan or Partitioned Offices for Your Business

Jamie Lloyd
Most offices layouts have been implemented already, and very rarely do people have a chance to plan the space available to work. The layout of the office depends on what your line of business and how the company operates.

You must take into consideration whether it is a team work area or if confidentiality and privacy are required. If you are accommodating a payroll specialist, you already know this is confidential information and therefore the workspace should not be open. More employees can be quickly accommodated by simply moving things around like desks and computers.

Communicating is easier when people serving a particular department or purpose are within one area. In an open area, you must not that supervisors and manager are within sight and see everything that goes on. Managers can also provide assistance quickly when required and resolve issues.

Open floor plans can mean that the chatter can be tough to deal with. The office can be noisy at times and this can make work completion difficult. Higher level of concentration is required. Security and privacy are not available in this type of office layout.

There is no such thing as privacy in an open office plan. Private calls are not private. Confidential calls cannot be made in this type of layout. Viruses can easily be transferred from one person to the other and everyone is closely "knit". Higher level employees will request offices as they believe they are entitled to it because they are management team members.

Delineate certain parts of the office without a high expense. Partitions can easily be changed and moved; relocating the partition is quick and easy. This saves money in the long run, without having to do any construction within the office just to accommodate employees.
