The DIY Street Fair opened (sort of) on Friday, Sept. 17 at E. Troy Street near Woodward in Ferndale. I say "sort of," because only a fraction of the booths were actually open. Most were still covered, which was unfortunate for the vendors since the turnout for the fair Friday was quite good.

The vendors that did open showed items that gave off a hand-made vibe, with booths selling wooden jewelry and artwork comprised of catalog ads imprinted on nature scenes being those that I found most interesting. The crowd checking out these crafts also enjoyed the beer garden, which had a selection of local brews to sample, as well as the bands that played from a stage that backed onto Woodward.

The feeling was fun and relaxed, and a lot of people brought their dogs with them. I actually met a lady who had two English Sheepdogs with her, one of which was a champion that she was going to enter in the Westminster Kennel Club show.

The fair runs through Sunday, staying open from noon to 2 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday (according to the information booth).
