Operation Chaos Chips Away at the Democratic Party

Amy Cox
As Barack Obama gained steam in the Democratic Primary, it seemed as though it was going to be a smooth ride for him to the nomination. That, however, changed when Republican radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh implemented Operation Chaos. Operation Chaos is Limbaugh's plan to throw a curveball in the election. He has urged Republicans to cross party lines and vote for Hilary Clinton in the primaries. Thus far, a record number of Republican voters have turned out for Hilary Clinton. Operation Chaos has proved itself a success.

Operation Chaos has several objections. First and foremost, it allows for the Democrats to do the dirty work as far as smearing each other. By withholding the nomination from Obama for a period of time, the primary season is forced to go on. As it continues, the attacks against Obama have gotten worse and worse. His minister has come out of the woodwork, as has William Ayers. His policies have been questioned, and he's been referred to as a fanciful idealist. This has all happened without the Republican Party getting their hands dirty. Initially, it seemed as though Obama would be unbeatable in a general election. He was a superior being in the world of politics. As his reputation gets sullied, though, that is no longer the case. McCain's position has greatly improved.

Another objective of Operation Chaos is to deplete the money of the candidates. That has worked to a great extent on Hilary Clinton. As the race continues, she has been forced to loan her campaign eleven million dollars. Obama, however, has continued to prove that he has tremendous fundraising skills. Money has not been an issue in the Obama campaign. Also, as the primary progresses and it becomes more and more obvious that Obama will be the nominee, he has been able to focus his attention more on McCain and less on Clinton. While he still has to visit other states to campaign, he is looking toward the general election. Therefore, much of his money is being spent with a greater goal in mind.

Thirdly, Operation Chaos is meant to put pressure on the Democratic Party. Currently, the Democrats are in a very tricky situation. Neither candidate will get the 2025 delegates needed to win the nomination outright. Instead, it will be the super delegates that decide the nomination. That has already began to cause problems within the Democratic Party. Many voters feel that the super delegates' votes should reflect the votes of the public, while Hilary Clinton feels that the votes should go to whoever is more likely to win the general election. Whoever ends up getting the nomination in the end will have to deal with the backlash of not winning the nomination outright. There will be angry Democrats and satisfied Republicans.

Operation Chaos has met all of its goals, and exceeded them. The Republican Party has been able to unite in order to wreak havoc on the Democratic Party, and the Democrats have yet to find a successful way to fight back. They need to learn from this. They need to learn that overstaying your welcome in an election can have detrimental effects on the party you support.

Sorry, I meant "objectives" instead of "objections." However, I am a Democrat, and I don't really support Operation Chaos, I was just simply stating that it has been working.

Duh, they're voting for Dems cause they know the republicans are war mongers and McCain will probably start a draft.

I don't know what you mean when you say "operation chaos has many objections" except to imagine that your language skills come from listening to Rush. As for your little operation, it is a failure, designed to hide failure. Truth is, millions have defected from the R party out of disgust, and aren't coming back....the tidal wave is coming, and the blowback against the idiotic conservative agenda will be massive.
