In total 6,406 fugitives were arrested as well as 8,219 warrants cleared all by the help of local, state, and federal law enforcement agents in 22 states in the United States. This all took part in a three month operation known as Operation Falcon -2007, which also stands for Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally. Among those included in this success were 242 police departments, 70 state agencies, 206 county sheriff departments, and 22 federal agencies. This news was announced today by Deputy Attorney General Craig Morford along with U.S. Marshals Service Director John Clark.
This operation was the fourth of its kind, this year sweeping from Baton Rouge and concluding in Philadelphia, aimed particularly at nabbing fugitives in hiding. It started in June of 2007, which is usually only a week long sweep, but because of the success and overwhelming efforts, the operation was extended to a three month period.
"Operation FALCON is a text book example of how law enforcement can and should work," said Acting Deputy Attorney General Craig Morford. "Under the leadership of the U.S. Marshals Service, hundreds of federal, state and local law enforcement officers polled their resources and worked together to remove violent offenders, drug dealers, gang members, sexual predators, and other fugitives from our streets. This cooperative effort has made our communities safer and promotes future cooperative efforts by law enforcement agencies at every level of government."
"Most importantly, by taking large numbers of violent fugitives off the street, we put an immediate end to their unlawful activities. This is significant, since many of these criminals have a long history of violence and abuse. Our actions have spared families, friends and entire communities the anguish of becoming victims at the hands of these repeat offenders, Clark said.
This operation definately has the statistics to prove that it is a success. Since 2005 alone, Operation Falcon has contributed to over 45,000 cleared warrants as well as the arrest of over 36,500 fugitives. This year alone, 73 people were arrested for homicides and another 328 for charges involving weapons. Even 249 weapons were seized! Among many other titles, this operation has been named the most successful apprehension effort of its kind in U.S. History. And these are the stories that news stations forget to talk about. Lets hear some good news. Good Job to everyone in Operation FALCON!
