OPI Shrek Forever After Collection - Summer 2010

OPI's Shrek Collection Includes an Ogre Green Color In "Who the Shrek Are You?"

Jessie Kay
In anticipation for the latest Shrek movie, Shrek Forever After, OPI will be unveiling a new nail polish collection corresponding with the movie. Six colors will be released and coordinate with the cartoonish color tones and wacky names related to the popular movie franchise. This collection is set for release in stores sometime later this spring - no exact date is known as of March 2010. Here's a look and description of the six colors.

Funky Dunkey: A tribute to Donkey, voiced by Eddie Murphy, OPI's "Funky Dunkey" is a bright, medium purple color. From the pictures I've seen, it looks like a close match to "A Grape Fit."

Who the Shrek Are You: Even if you don't like this color, you've got to hand it to OPI for coming up with these cunning names. "Who the Shrek Are You" is a chartreuse green and looks unlike any other OPI color I can think of. I'll definitely be getting this, even if only for the name.

Ogre-the-Top Blue: This is an extremely bright, almost neon-looking sky blue. For blue lovers, like myself, this is a must-have.

Fiercely Fiona: This light yellow nail polish looks incredibly similar to "Banana Bandana." Unless it appears different in-person than online, I'll probably pass on this because I already own a similar color. I do love the name though.

Rumples Wiggin: This is a light lavender color, reminding me of "Do You Lilac It" or a lighter version of "Done Out in Deco."

What's With the Cattitude? This is a robin's egg blue color. I absolutely love it. As far as I know, OPI has not has a color like this in their collection.

Normally, I'm not much of a movie tie-ins person. It's just another way to capitalize on a movie's popularity. After all, OPI already released a movie tie-in collection earlier this year with their Alice in Wonderland collection (I like the colors, but I'm not too crazy about Alice and Wonderland). And it's not as if OPI needs more publicity and marketing gimmicks - most nail polish fanatics are obsessed with OPI already. But, I can't help but love these colors. I've always been a big fan of the greens, purples, and yellows. I'm also thrilled that there are no reds - OPI has been on red overdose for as long as I can remember.

And as a huge OPI fan, I know I'll be suckered into buying most of these colors once they come out.
