OPI's Nail Polish in Parlez-Vous OPI: A Review

The Pen
Last year I'd seen ads for OPI's fall collection of nail polishes entitled "La Collection de France," and I really loved all of the colors in the collection. They were sophisticated, edgy and warm, and I was so impressed that I literally wanted to buy them all.

At $8 a bottle, I didn't act on that impulse, but I bought three shades from Ulta, including "Lourve Me Lourve Me Not", "Eiffel For This Color," and most recently "Parlez-Vous OPI?"

I was attracted to the Parlez-Vous OPI? nail polish because it's a really unique shade. It looks like someone poured a cup of milk into a glass of grape juice and stirred it. Instead of looking exactly like a lavender nail polish, it reminds me more of a milky purple shade in the bottle.

When I applied the Parlez-Vous OPI? polish to my nails it looked identical to the milky purple shade it was in the bottle, but as it dried it became slightly darker. So it looks more like a smoky purple or a dark lavender color.

I really like this shade. Parlez-Vous OPI? has both warm and cool tones so I think most people could probably pull it off. If it had been the milky grape color it was in the bottle, it would've been perfect for my skin tone. But even though it was a bit darker, I still found that it looked good against my caramel skin tone.

After applying two coats my nails looked super shiny, as if I'd gone to a nail salon, even though this is a creamier shade. It really looked like I'd used a topcoat.

Since I've bought this OPI nail polish I've seen it worn by models and celebrities in magazines, and I've seen some pictures of Rhianna wearing Parlez-Vous OPI? a few times. We have similar skin tones, and I think this shade is so popular with her and other people because it can work as a neutral shade that isn't as boring as a nude or beige color.

It can look prim and lady-like if that's your style, but it can also be worn in a tongue-in-cheek, playful way that makes this color seem much edgier.

The only thing that I didn't like about this polish was the fact that even though it looked super shiny when I first applied it, within the next two or three days it looked extremely dull. It also chipped really quickly.

In the End...

I love the Parlez-Vous OPI nail polish, it's understated but very sleek and edgy. It's best suited for fall, but it's light enough to pull off in the spring and summer too. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
