Opportunites Galore Await Homeless Man with the Golden Voice

His address was given as "Streets of Columbus" by this homeless man with the 'Golden Voice'. His name is Ted Willams, a name that he shares with a once famous baseball player. Until a few days ago, this homeless Ted Williams was just a street person panhandling near Interstate 71. A sign he was carrying indicated he was a former radio announcer who had fallen on hard times. A newspaper reporter from Columbus came across Williams and as many will say "the rest is history"

The roadside interview with the homeless man appeared on You Tube and popularity of "the voice" video attracted coverage in the local papers as well as on television stations across America. His smooth voice delivery is described as that of announcers heard on radio and television everywhere. The homeless man with the golden voice became an overnight sensation, with media requests to do interviews with him coming in from everywhere.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time, Ted Williams certainly can't deny that's what happened to him, despite the dire circumstances he was in. He said it took him years to develop this remarkable voice and he even had school training to help him along the way. Drugs and alcohol and some other life situations along the way caused this homeless man with that God-given voice to end up where he is today.

The father of nine, Williams said he grew up in Brooklyn. At the age of 14 he made a trip to a radio station and was struck by the fact that the announcers looked nothing like they sounded. Unfortunately Williams lifestyle took him to the streets rather then a career in radio, which he said he really wanted to pursue.

The Internet video of the homeless man showing off his great voice, posted on You Tube by a Columbus reporter, has given Ted Williams, a second chance to pursue his lifelong dream. Offers for jobs have been pouring in from across America. Ted Williams has been flown to New York and he has been interviewed on numerous television and radio stations telling his story.

Just one of the many job offers he has had is with the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers. Will this homeless man with the golden voice find his niche in life and land that dream job in 2011? We all hope for the best for him, that's for sure.

There is the possibility that all of this becomes too overwhelming for Mr. Williams and he ends where that Columbus reporter originally discovered him, along Interstate 71 panhandling. No one wishes that on him of course, but he has had numerous run ins with the law in the past. Ted Williams says that today he has a "New sense of spirituality", which he never had before and that is hopefully what will keep on the right track.

As the NBC Today Show hosts told Mr. Williams, hopefully you'll come back in 5 years with stories of great success. That's my wish for Ted Williams, also. We all deserve a second chance at life and it's entirely up to each of us as to what we do with it.

Let's hope that he uses these opportunities to beter himself and keep clean and sober. It was a refreshing story in the middle of so much negative news isnt it?
