Thanksgiving is around the corner, prompting many North Texans to reflect upon all of the blessings for which they are thankful. If you are looking for ways to demonstrate your gratitude and share your time or resources, perhaps you will consider spending Thanksgiving serving others. There are many locations and manners in which you can volunteer on Thanksgiving in DFW. Following are a few organizations that would gladly accept your assistance.

Alliance for Children provides services to children who are victims of abuse and to their families. This organization serves 300 families every holiday season, and is in need of pre-filled Thanksgiving baskets, gift certificates from local grocery stores and monetary donations and store gift certificates.

Dallas Bethlehem Center provides education in a nurturing setting to financially disadvantaged children. This organization seeks volunteers to prepare food, serve guests and clean up at its annual Thanksgiving dinner.

Christian Community Action is a Lewisville-based ministry that serves the needy. They need volunteers ages 10 and up for Thanksgiving as well as Christmas. Contact the agency to request a list of available shifts, and then show up to stock shelves with food and toys, fill bags of food for clients, assist clients shopping in the Christmas Toy Store and more. They have a need for Spanish-speaking volunteers to help clients who speak little English, as well.

Dallas Life ministers to homeless families and individuals. While they do need people to volunteer on Thanksgiving in DFW, they also need support year-round. You can roll up your sleeves and serve food or volunteer in another capacity, you can donate cash or you can give clothing, blankets, food or any other non-monetary gift-in-kind items.

The Stewpot serves Dallas-area homeless and at-risk individuals on Thanksgiving and all year long. Volunteers age 12 and older are needed to serve food cafeteria-style and to pour beverages to seated clients.

The Dallas YMCA supports strong kids, strong families and strong communities, and the Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot raises money to support the Y. You can volunteer on Thanksgiving in DFW at this 8-mile race in a number of ways. Volunteers are needed to help with parking, setup, registration, cleanup and more.

If you have not yet found a Thanksgiving day volunteer opportunity that suits you, keep looking. Check with your place of worship, your child's school and even your workplace to see if they are involved in any type of volunteerism in DFW. You are sure to find the perfect chance to give back and make a difference.
