On Thursday, October 28 Oprah Winfrey will feature the entire cast of The Sound of Music as it celebrates its 45th anniversary. Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, and Charmian Carr (who played eldest daughter Liesl) will speak with Oprah as well as the other cast members who made the movie into one of the most beloved of all time.

Additionally, the Blu-Ray edition of the film will be released on November 2, 2010 for those die-hard fans who want to add to their collection of all-time favorite movies.

For those who aren't sure what The Sound of Music is about, it's one of those musical films considered to be a classic. The music for the film was written by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and today, some of those songs are known world-wide, including The Sound of Music, Edelweiss, My Favorite Things and Do-Re-Mi.

The story was based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers", how she chose to marry the captain (played by Plummer) instead of becoming a nun, and then their family's subsequent escape from Austria during World War II. The film's story was altered somewhat as were some of the names and order of the children.

When the film was first released critics thought it was "too sweet", and Christopher Plummer, 80, told Oprah that he even called the movie 'The Sound of Mucus.'

Julie Andrews is now 75 and told Oprah "I think we all felt that it we weren't careful, the film could have been dreadfully saccharin."
