Oprah Makes Her Twitter Debut: Live Updates of Oprah's Twitter Account

Oprah Winfrey, the Queen of daytime and talk show television, has made her Twitter debut. The Big O, has opened up an official Twitter account at http://twitter.com/Oprah. Her first tweet was posted on April 17th, 2009 around 10AM EST. What did Oprah's first twitter say? That she is feeling "21st Century" and she also says "Hi".

Oprah has been tweeting often since opening up her first Twitter account, talking to other Twitter members and even updating everyone on her dog Sadie.

Oprah's Twitter account has been opened for less than hour this morning, and she already had close to 100,000 Twitter followers! Fellow Tweeters are loving O, and are hoping to be one of her followers. How cool would be it be to be followed by Oprah? We would be thrilled!

Oprah herself is following nine people, and the rest of us are jealous. So far, O has chosen to follow Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres, George Stephanopoulos, Ashton Kutcher, Gayle King, Demi Moore, Evan Williams, Shaquille O'Neal and Sheri Salata.

Among Oprah's lucky Twitter followers, Sheri Salata seems to be the only non-celebrity. Salata is an executive producer in Chicago, according to her Twitter bio. Most likely she is an Oprah Show executive, but we will confirm.

Some of Oprah's tweets have been directed to her fellow celebrity members, such as Jimmy Fallon. Oprah told Fallon to order a reuben for her. She did scold George Stephanopoulos for posting a link to his upcoming show. Oprah called it a promo and not a tweet. We look forward to funny exchanges between Oprah and her Twitter followers.

Oprah's e-mail account must be exploding right now. Refreshing her Twitter page shows that her Twitter followers are growing, ten per minute or more. Twitter sends an e-mail to their users each time they receive a new follower, or direct messages. Which means Oprah has received well over 100,000 e-mail notifications from Twitter today!

6:13PM Oprah Updates! After hours of no tweets, Oprah has finally sent us something. Oprah is having strawberry margaritas with her producers after the show, and thanking @ev for his appearance. Oprah also thanked Shaquille O'Neal for being her buddy. Her tweet to Shaq said "@THE_REAL_SHAQ thanks for being my twitter buddy. this is cool."

We wonder how flooded her inbox is right now, and how many @s she is sorting through. Oprah should be hiring assistants just for her Twitter account. We'd love the job!

5:32PM Update Still no tweet updates from Oprah, but fans are tweeting their hearts out. A lot of them are sending messages to Oprah. If Oprah does not update her Twitter account soon, who will be the first to nudge her?

Oprah's current Twitter followers count is at 161,400 . Perez Hilton, a popular celebrity blogger has 591,748 followers. Perez Hilton has been twittering on his Official Twitter since January of 2009. At this rate, Oprah will have 14,526,000 by the time her Twitter account is three months old. That is 14 million, way more Twitter followers than Perez Hilton, CNN and Ashton Kutcher combined.
