Talk Show Queen, Oprah Winfrey, to Film Talk-show at Sydney Opera House
Oprah Winfrey announced this week that she is coming to Australia, together with 300 of her US viewers, to film several episodes of her talk-show. One venue is the Sydney Opera House for a December 14 filming. This venue has a large audience capacity and thousands of Australians will be invited to join Oprah and her US fans. It is now being dubbed "Sydney Oprah House".
"I wanted to kick off my 25th season in a big way and I've heard Australia is the ultimate adventure," Winfrey said.
"It's one of the places I've always wanted to visit, and who better to take with me on this trip of a lifetime than some of my most loyal viewers.
"My team has been planning this trip for almost a year and we are so excited to go down under."
The Australian tour will see Oprah and her team fly in on a Qantas Airways jet. During eight days and seven nights, they will experience their Aussie dream holiday sampling the sights of Sydney and other parts of Australia.
Tourism boost for Australia will be the ultimate spin-off
This visit will offer a huge boost to Australian tourism. A celebrity of Oprah Winfrey's magnitude will attract lots of focus on Australia as a holiday destination. It would be hard to pay for the publicity these shows will engender in the US and around the world.
"For many people around the world, Australia is a dream destination," Andrew McEvoy, managing director of Tourism Australia said.
"Today we turned that dream into a reality for some of Oprah's ultimate viewers. We are excited to show them and Oprah's global audience why there really is nothing like Australia."
Oprah Winfrey's show is syndicated to 215 TV stations across the US and 145 countries around the world.
Sydney Opera House not without its woes!
In May this year, I reported on the financial crisis facing the Sydney Opera House. Financial non-viability and lack of government funding has see this iconic structure become a maintenance nightmare. AU$900 million is required to bring the building back to its former glory. There is even rumor that the Opera House might need to be closed if drastic measures are not taken to restore this amazing cultural venue.
Perhaps the visit of Oprah Winfrey will play a small part in ensuring that the Sydney Opera House gets the attention it deserves.

I loved today's show! I cried thru the whole thing. I watched her very first show and I was a faithful fan up for many years. I tapped the show and watched it as soon as I got home from work. Glad she is going to your neck of the woods, maybe you will get to see her!
