Talk show titan Oprah Winfrey stunned the world when she announced her plans to end her long running talk show in 2011 and start her own cable TV network. Oprah's network will be called OWN, for the Oprah Winfrey Network. OWN is a joint venture between Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications.

Oprah Winfrey is already working in partnership with Discovery. Winfrey will narrate LIFE a new series on Discovery Channel. The 11 part series will premiere in March 2010. Life promises to reveal unique species found in nature using state of the art filming techniques.

Winfrey will use her influential voice to describe compelling images captured on film. Examples of the strange creatures captured on LIFE include the star-nosed mole the hunts underwater by using bubbles to smell prey or the fruit bats that darken the sky in Zambia. Each of the episodes explores stunning stories of survival told with elements of drama, suspense and humor.

Life is a series that has been over four years in the making. Filming took place over 3,000 days, on every continent and in a variety of habitats. The show reveals creatures strange, bizarre and unusual across the globe. The stories in LIFE get up close and personal to creatures in their native habitats and explores their behaviors.

There are more than 30 million different plant and animal species in the world. Each species is locked in a unique fight for survival. According to Discovery Channel, Life explores their adaptability and diversity. The unusual species filmed and described on LIFE have behaviors that may seem fascinating and bizarre to viewers who are not familiar with them.

Many of the specials captured on Life have never been captured on film before. The latest in state of the art filming techniques were used to capture these unique species, for a close up look at the facinating plants and creatures in the wild.

Some of the species that will be featured on LIFE include the Komodo dragon, short horned chameleon, sailfish, Japanese macaque, leopard seal, sengi, cheetah, Caiman, Sumatran orang-utan, Stoat/Ermine, Weddell seal, dragon's blood tree, hippopotamus, cleaner shrimp, Vogelkop bowerbird, Dawson bees and unique frogs.
