Oprah Winfrey and Paul McCartney are receiving the an award at the 33rd Kennedy Center Honors along with Merle Haggard, Bill T. Jones and Jerry Herman. This award show is a very special event in the world of the arts.

Oprah is following in the footsteps of Johnny Carson in winning this honor. This award is usually given to entertainers, but Johnny Carson once won it too. Oprah responded to news of the award by saying: "It feels like an elevated kind of award and there aren't many in this category. They look at your work, your life work, who you are as a human being and the spirit of who you are," reports the Washington Post.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is about to win one of the most prestigious awards in America. She will be given the Kennedy Center Honor tomorrow. She has already arrived in Washington, DC to get ready for the awards ceremony. Her boyfriend Stedman Graham and best friend Gayle King are with her to watch her receive the Kennedy Center Honor, notes the Daily Mail.

Oprah is a star of media. She has created 4,400 television shows and participated in six movies. She has helped many people through the Angel Network on her show "Oprah." She has worked in television for more than 25 years.

Oprah is also now about to begin her own network which will be called the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). In describing her goals for the network Oprah said "What if I could take every hero who inspired me; every lesson that motivated me, every opportunity that was ever given to me; and give it to you?," reports the Daily Mail.

Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney expressed his joy at winning this honor. He told the Washington Post, "President Kennedy was such an icon for us in the Sixties and his presidency was so inspiring for so many people that it is a great pleasure for this kid from Liverpool to receive this honor."

The Kennedy Center announced "Sir Paul McCartney is one of the most successful and successful songwriters and musicians of all time, whose work has continuously altered both the creation and perception of music all over the world."

Paul McCartney is now age 68. He is still an active musician and continues to express his creativity. Some of his songs created decades ago are still enormously popular now. There was worldwide media coverage recently when iTunes finally started selling the songs of the Beatles. Paul McCartney has achieved fame that will last forever.

Special People

Both Oprah Winfrey and Paul McCartney seem to have a special joy about them. They are both wildly successful but down to earth too. They reach out to help other people and give their presence to important causes too.

I'm not a fan of Oprah but I do think she is deserving of the Kennedy Center award. She kicked down a lot of doors for women. I'm also pretty tickled that Merle Haggard is on the list!

Thank you for this article. I am going to watch the show. Oprah should be an inspiration to all women black or otherwise. She has climbed the ladder to success one step at a time and being black in that era was like an anchor on her leg. But she did it and along the way helped millions of people. My dream has always been to meet her. Looks like the tube is the only way I will.

i have lots of friends that work on this show....should be a good one, it usually is a fabulous show...and Oprah is important because she changed tv because she is a woman, a black woman that became very successful and she gives a LOT of money to charity

I think it's interesting that we have these NAMES which have a ressonance which may be bigger than who they ever were as people. Good for the winners, great reporting
