Oprah Winfrey, the Queen of Talk Shows, Announces the End of Her Show

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in a poverty stricken town in Kosciusko Mississippi. Her mother was single and a teenager when she gave birth to Oprah and later on when Oprah was a teenager herself, her Mother moved them to a neighborhood in Milwaukee. Oprah Winfrey is a well-known personality of the media. She is an actress and producer, and is known best for her self-titled, multi-award winning talk show, which has become the highest-rated program of its kind in history since the shows debut, which was aired back in 1986.

Oprah announced this past week that her talk show will come to an end. The final show will air on September 9, 2011 after being aired on ABC and other television channels for the past 25 years.Each week, over 42 million fans tune in to watch Oprah. Even though just recently there has been a decline in viewers, The Oprah Winfrey show still has the highest rating of viewers among all of the other talk shows on television. During her announcement about the cancellation of this show, a tearful Oprah said that throughout all of these years, her viewers have enriched her life like they will never know.

Oprah's next adventure will come next year when she will partner with a cable network station with her new show titled, OWN, which stands for Oprah Winfrey Network and will begin airing in 2011.

Oprah Winfrey's very first show debuted back in 1986 and that first show included an array of guests including Tom Cruise who appeared on the show in May of 2005 and his famous couch-jumping scene. After jumping around the set and bouncing off of the couch, Tom bent down on one knee and confessed his never ending, undying love for his girlfriend, and now wife, Katie Holmes. This episode was voted the number one spot by E! as The Most Surprising Television Moments.

Back in 1993 when Michael Jackson made a rare appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show, made this the highest-rated single episode ever. Michael Jackson was explaining why his skin was turning lighter and he was attempted to dispel all of the nasty rumors surrounding him. Michael explained to Oprah Winfrey on that day that he suffered from a skin-pigment disorder known as vitiligo. The skin disease causes patches of the skin on the body to turn white.

Another famous episode of the Oprah Winfrey show was the May 2009 appearance of Britain's Got Talent Winner, Susan Boyle via Satellite.

On December 25, 1986, Liberace, who was weak and sick, was a guest on he Oprah Winfrey Show. He died six weeks later from AIDS. This was Liberace's last public appearance.

    She's been a part of television for many years. It will be sad to see her go, although I doubt she will stay gone for long. Something will lure her back.

    Thanks for taking me down Memory Lane when it comes to Oprah. I remember her back in Chicago days. You touched on many high points of her career. In some ways, hard to believe the show is ending.
