Oprah's Next Chapter

New Oprah Winfrey Show is in the Works

Pearl Grace
ABC news just reported that Oprah Winfrey is expected to tell the world on her daytime show today that she plans to have a new show during prime time on a cable channel. Called, "Oprah's Next Chapter," the show will reportedly focus on Winfrey traveling the world while conducting interviews with famous people and celebrities.

Discussed first by the Wall Street Journal, "Oprah's Next Chapter" will be a one hour long show and may be on more than once a week in prime time. She is considered to be a gifted interviewer by many. Others see her as a host who often interrupts her guests as they respond to questions she posed. Some even complain she gives little opportunities for guests to answer her queries and instead, answers them herself.

According to the Chicago Tribune News Blog, Oprah Winfrey has reportedly stated that once she begins the new show, she will no longer have to remain in Chicago at Harpo Productions. Instead, she will have the freedom of travel. China and Egypt are possible locales for the new show, according to the Wall Street Journal's website. Interestingly, she plans to have celebrities accompany her on her travels and will interview them as an important aspect of the "Oprah's Next Chapter" show.

OWN, Oprah Winfrey Network

According to the Chicago Tribune's News Blog, the show will be on OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network. The Tribune Blog also reported that the Oprah Winfrey Network, OWN, is a "50-50 venture" between Oprah Winfrey and the current Discovery Network. OWN will reportedly replace Discovery Network on cable as of January 1, 2011. The rumor is that the OWN network will be a 24 hour network.

Oprah Winfrey Shows Currently In the Planning Stages

Apparently, other Oprah Winfrey shows are in the works for OWN, including a book-club-inspired production. This production is, of course, the offspring of her incredibly successful "book club" format introduced and developed over the years on her daytime "Oprah Show."

Another rumored show in development is a reality show featuring Shania Twain's experience of her crumbling marriage and how she makes it through the painful process. Another show also possibly in the works is a blend of a competition and reality production by Mark Burnett, known for his successful reality series, "Survivor" (Wall Street Journal website).

Oprah Winfrey Network Questions to Ponder

How will Oprah Winfrey do in prime time? Will she be as successful when her show is up against popular prime time shows with healthy Nielson ratings? Will her largely female daytime audience follow her into prime time? Can the public take Oprah Winfrey 24 hours a day? How much is too much Oprah exposure? Time will tell. It remains to be seen whether Oprah Winfrey can make her mark in prime time television the way she has in daytime television. And we are all watching and waiting to see.
