Oprah's Secret is Not What You May Think

Will Gayle like Her?

Jolie du Pre
Oprah's secret, a secret that she has been keeping for months, was revealed on her January 24, 2011 show. Oprah has a half-sister named Patricia.

Patricia began to suspect that Oprah might be her sister when she watched a televised interview with Oprah's mother Vernita Lee. Oprah met Patricia on a trip to Milwaukee during Thanksgiving of 2010. Oprah's mother had kept Patricia a secret ever since she put her up for adoption at birth. "For the most part my life has been an open book," Oprah said. "I thought nothing could surprise me but I was wrong."

Patricia was put in different foster homes until she was adopted at the age of 7. Contacting Oprah was not an act that Patricia took lightly. She didn't want to embarrass Oprah. Ironically, Oprah has now made the situation as public as possible by revealing her secret on the show.

But will the relationship work? Everyone knows that Oprah is one of the richest women in the world with a busy schedule. Now that Oprah's secret is revealed and Patricia is her half sister, will Oprah have time for Patricia?

It all looks sweet for the cameras. Audience members, who are fond of Oprah, shed tears right along with her. But what will the real deal be? Oprah interviewed Patricia just like she does every guest. The two women have not grown up together and don't have much in common. If Patricia is in need of money, Oprah may give it to her. But will she give Patricia her time?

I grew up apart of my sister. I am not famous . My sister tried a couple times to establish contact with me while younger but I simply don't have the energy nor the desire just to be best sisters just because we are sisters.

    That's sad but true.

I usually refer to my best friend as sister.

I think it would be exciting to have a new sister. I'm not sure how Oprah feels but we shall see as time passes.

I guess it remains to be seen. It's hard to develop a meaningful relationship after so many years of not knowing each other. I hope the best for them.
