Oprah's Thriftiest Holiday Ever: Cristina Ferrare's Holiday Menu

A Delicious and Budget Orientated Thanksgiving Meal

Christina Ferrare's Holiday menu really does add a touch of spice to the normal Thanksgiving menu. Presented as part of Oprah's thriftiest holiday ever, Christina Ferrare produced a whole menu of affordable and delicious alternatives to the traditional thanksgiving fare.

Christina Ferrare's Holiday menu

Christina Ferrare's Turkey with Marinade is a delicious alternative to the normal dry turkey. Utilizing dijon mustard and soy sauce to marinade the bird and stuffing it with lemon rinds and herbs will produce a turkey that is both tasty and moist. Added to this is Christina Ferrare's original thanksgiving stuffing, that utilizes several vegetables and juices as well as white wine, and seems like the perfect side for the moist turkey. To pour on top of the bird Christina Ferrare suggests a chive gravy which is a basic gravy with chopped chives and pomegranate seeds.

For side dishes Christina Ferrare Holiday menu has 4 choices; Sweet potato biscuits that add an extra touch to the basic biscuit by adding mashed sweet potatoes, a standard creamed spinach recipe that is simple but delicious, an orange walnut cranberry sauce that looks tasty and is a little different and sweet potatoes with a marshmallow crust that looks delightful and must taste dreamy.

For dessert Christina Ferrare's holiday menu suggests a pumpkin chiffon pie. Basically take a normal pumpkin pie with a graham cracker crust and top it with heavy whipped cream. If you are not counting the calories (does anybody on Thanksgiving?) then this will make the perfect end to the meal.

Overall I do like Christina Ferrare's Holiday menu and I will be adding the sweet potato biscuits, orange wallnut cranberry sauce and the pumpkin pie to my own thanksgiving menu. As for the other elements of Christina Ferrare's Holiday menu, well, the turkey marinade is too basic, the stuffing is too complicated and there seems to be a lot of sweet potatoes flying around. I like some of her ideas, but on a budget - as I am some others are - many of them are out of my reach.
