Optoma PK102 Pico Projector Review

John Rivers
Optoma PK102 is a portable mobile projector (a.k.a. pocket projector or mobile projector). It is able to project bright and colored images and it is a smooth way to display your presentation. Optoma PK102 is one of the smallest pocket projectors in the market right now and it has sufficient power to perform for a small audience in gloomy (not so bright) room. You will be able to store your presentations, like video clips, images, on a 4GB internal memory that PK102 has.

Optoma PK102 is able to reach a brightness level of 11 lumens (it can also run on an economy mode which is 8 lumens); it is also able to deliver an LED light of 20,000 hours. PK102 uses a projection device, built by Texas Instruments, which can be is connected to video cards, AC adapters, USB, and simply, you can connect it to everything that has a video output. You are able to connect Optoma PK102 to an iPod or iPhone and show your presentations. Although, it can only be done using third-party cables, which are not included with the PK102. But you don't necessarily need cables to present your video or images. You can do it with Optoma's built-in media player. The battery will hold for 60 to 90 minutes; using the device with lower brightness settings will enhance the battery time.

Optoma PK102 can project viewable 30-inch images on its 480x320 resolution in not so bright daylight. It is also able to produce a decent 46-inch image from the distance of 6 feet. It is possible to view larger images but the brightness will suffer.

Text quality is very satisfying, especially in large fonts. But due to lower resolution, it is harder to read small text on PK102. Image quality is fine with nice colors but it is possible to sometimes see oversaturation. Video clips run smoothly on PK102 with good saturation. You can surely watch movies on Optoma but its integrated speaker is too weak, you might want to use earphones or separate speakers.

All in all, Optoma PK102 pico projector has nice features and, most importantly, it is a portable projector. 250 dollars for a projector that fits in your pocket which you can carry around is quite reasonable. Source: here.
