Oral Sex Between Second Graders in California Classroom

Sheryl Young
A second grade girl and boy are reported to have engaged in oral sex in a California classroom.

When the story proved credible to the school principal, a teacher was suspended for allegedly doing nothing to stop the children. It's not yet proved beyond a doubt that he (an unnamed male teacher) witnessed the act. An investigation is ongoing.

Initially reported by a fellow student, the report has several possible angles: The act may have happened in the room in front of the teacher, or in a nearby area where the teacher did or didn't see what was going on.

Students also reported that some classmates had taken off their clothes and were walking around the room naked.

According to an AP report at Yahoo News, the principal of Oakland's Markham Elementary sent notes home to families apologizing and promising actions to ensure something like this can't happen again.

Throughout media reports so far, random parent interviews have been conducted.

One parent, in a report at the San Francisco Chronicle, stated she didn't think second grade kids even knew about sex.

Parents who think second graders "don't know" about sex are misinformed:

An Oakland school spokesperson stated children have a natural curiosity about the human body. This is true...kids are curious about their own body as well as those of their friends and parents.

However, the amount of encouragement provided today to physically act on this curiosity - beyond "playing doctor," lifting a skirt or unzipping one's pants - is permeating our society:

-Sexually charged TV shows may air for the first time during late-night, but cable stations re-run these programs multiple times at various hours of the day. Once syndicated, the shows may air on stations parents think are safe-guarded.

-In 2010, the Massachusetts school system was going to distribute condoms starting in first grade until a concerned citizens' uprising moved it to later grades (see previous article).

-Planned Parenthood is often invited into public schools to teach sex education. In some school districts, this may begin in kindergarten.

- Second graders are generally 7 to 8 years old. Planned Parenthood's website on what kids should know about sex gives guidelines for the 5-7-year-old and 8-12-year-old categories.

By age 5-7, Planned Parenthood says children should know:

-all people are sexual;

-sexuality occurs at all ages.

By age 8-12, Planned Parenthood teaches:

What "sex work" is. This includes: phone sex, prostitution, erotic massage, lap-dancing and strip-tease (all under the guise of it being dangerous - but we know this will pique children's curiosity).

Also beginning at age 8 - how to practice safer sex. Planned Parenthood does not call protected sex safe sex. They know the only truly safe sex is abstinence.

But Planned Parenthood's sex education tools discourage abstinence education on the grounds that all humans are sexual - even in the face of new studies proving its potency in preventing sexual activity, pregnancy and disease. Their web page on Abstinence-Only education calls it a religious right propaganda tool and a restriction on children's free speech.

-SIECUS, the organization that develops America's nationwide sex education curriculum for teachers, advocates many of the same things. SIECUS was developed by graduates of the Kinsey Institute and based on Alfred Kinsey's "research" that "children are sexual from birth."

Kinsey's research has been questioned for years. There is evidence he obtained his conclusions through abusive experimentation on small children. Nevertheless, SIECUS uses Kinsey as early sex education support.

Do Planned Parenthood and SIECUS give out some genuinely useful information?

Of course. But armed with all the extra facts about how to be sexual from birth, you can bet our second graders know plenty about sex.

How is it even possible that the teacher was unaware of his students performing oral sex in the classroom? I am so appalled by what is happening to our children. Everything has become so out of control. We need a spiritual awakening and uplifting – maybe we could invite God back into the classroom?

I think you can overreact to something like this, especially if it is an isolated incident. Yes the teacher should have known better and needs to be dired, but young kids will experiment as they learn about their bodies. Television and parents who allow kids that young to watch things like that are to blame, but I'm not sure a child under 12 needs to learn all about the sex industry, phone sex and prostitution etc. Sure there are some who know far more than they ought to at an early age - parents fauly again, but please spare those who still have some innocence left.

That teaacher needs retraining or a smaller class room group as it's obvious he is not keeping very good track of the children and what they are doing. I think the children need to go to play therapy too to make sure they are not being sexually abused someplace else.

One more good reason to take your kids out of the public school system.
