Oral-B Triumph 9900 Review

Is it Worth the Splurge?

Robin Neorr
There is nothing better then a clean fresh feeling mouth. That being said it can be quite painful plunking down over $150 for a toothbrush that you are not quite sure of.

I recently tested the Oral-B Triumph 9900 and I had a few thoughts.

PROS:

It is small. This unit will not take up an overwhelming amount of space on your bathroom sink. In fact it has a base that stores your toothbrush heads that you really don't even need to use. We keep ours in the drawer and just rest the toothbrush on its travel charger.

The Triumph 9900 comes with a SmartGuide which is essentially a wireless timer. My husband loves the little round flashing sections that instruct you to brush different sections of your mouth for thirty second segments. When you have brushed your teeth for a full two minutes the timer smiles at you. Who doesn't like a little positive reinforcement for a job well done. The other bonus is that this little timer is not connected to the toothbrush. You can stick it on the wall or rest it on your sink. You can even grab the timer and bring it with you into another room if you multitask during brushing. Don't laugh I am guilty of running around looking for my hairbrush while using a toothbrush.

The Oral-B Triumph 9900 SmartGuide also tells you when you are brushing too hard. This is my favorite feature. I am guilty of over brushing my teeth which causes your gums to recede. When you push your toothbrush too hard a visual pressure sensor is displayed on the SmartGuide. Trying to brush your teeth without getting the red pressure sensor warning becomes a bit of a contest at our house. We love seeing who can brush their teeth with the fewest pressure sensor warnings go off.

The Triumph 9900 comes with two brush heads to start you off. It comes with a flossing head, which is great for people who don't floss as often as they should and a whitening head. I have been using the whitening head for two weeks with pretty good results. I haven't noticed a dramatic increase in the whiteness of my teeth, but my teeth do feel really smooth after each brushing. I can run my tongue over my teeth and they feel like smooth glass.

The SmartGuide warns you when your toothbrush head needs replaced. I don't know how it knows, but if your toothbrush head is worn down a red warning symbol will flash on the SmartGuide.

CONS:

I would really like to see this product have a sanitizer attached to store the toothbrush in. I am a sucker for cleanliness and a toothbrush head sanitizer would make me smile.

I wish that the toothbrush had a quick setting. There are times when I just want to spend a minute brushing my teeth after lunch and a one minute quick mode would really make a huge difference.

I found it difficult to know what mode my toothbrush was on when we switched it from clean mode to another mode such as sensitive or polish.

Overall it is a good toothbrush. My teeth feel much cleaner then they do when I use a manual toothbrush and knowing I am brushing for the full two minutes will definitely make a difference in my next dentist visit. This toothbrush will improve your overall oral hygiene routine because it makes brushing fun. I would recommend looking into purchasing it if you do go the electric toothbrush route.
