This is a recipe my mom use to make for us on holiday mornings. Now my wife does the same for our kids, the smell still reminds me of Christmas morning. Be careful these are very good, it is hard to eat just one of them.

Dough

3 egg yolks, beaten

1 ¨ù cups butter

1 pkg dry yeast

1 cup sour cream

4 cups flour

¨ú tsp salt

2 tsp vanilla

Filling

7 oz tube almond paste

¨ù cup sugar

14 zwieback toasts, crushed

1 stick butter

2 egg whites

1tsp almond extract

Orange sugar frosting

1 Tbsp melted butter

1 ¨ö cups powder sugar

5 tsp fresh orange juice

3tsp dark rum

Dough

Mix together flour, salt, and yeast. Cut butter in for lour mix. Add sour cream, egg yolks and vanilla. Kneed and form into ball. Flour ball board with powder sugar. Divide dough into 6 portions. Roll each portion in a 12-inch circle. Spread each with filling. Cut each circle into 8 wedges. Roll up wedges, starting at widest edge. Bake 15 minutes at 350¢ª until slightly brown. Frost with orange sugar frosting.

Filling

Beat butter, add paste and sugar. Add egg whites and almond extract. Mix. Add zwieback and mix.

Orange sugar frosting

Melt butter in sauce pan. While over a low heat, add half the sugar orange juice. Mix well. Add remaining sugar, juice and rum. Keep stirring until the frosting is thick and glossy.
