Orange Wedding Ideas: Decor and Flowers

J. Darling
When planning a wedding color scheme around a particular season, look to decor traditionally associated with that time of the year. Red, brown, yellow, and orange are prevalent colors in fall decorations but if you don't want your wedding to look too seasonal, choose one seasonal hue and build your color theme around it. Orange weddings are becoming very trendy, and shades of orange pair well with a variety of other colors such as white, black, fuchsia, and brown. If the idea of an orange wedding seems a little too bright, remember that there are many shades of orange, from light subtle colors like apricot to the more typical deep pumpkin orange, so don't be afraid!

Orange accents can add a burst of color to a wedding, such as using orange ribbons or floral arrangements as aisle markers on the chairs or pews during the ceremony. This will complement any orange accents worn or carried by the wedding party, such as bridesmaid dresses, boutonnieres, bouquets, the flower girl's dress, and the ring bearer pillow. At the wedding reception, attaching place cards to miniature pumpkins or gourds is one way to incorporate the fall season into orange wedding decor. Hang paper lanterns in various shades of orange and of various sizes as lighting for nighttime wedding receptions. Using rustic shimmery orange tablecloths will help set the orange mood, but if the idea of orange tablecloths is color overkill, go with white tablecloths and incorporate orange through the use of centerpieces and dinnerware. Using fruit to make centerpieces is very popular. You can fill a clear rectangular vase halfway with water and float orange slices in the water along with stemmed flowers in oranges, reds, and yellows. Traditional orange pillar candle centerpieces or floating candles and orange flower petal centerpieces would also work well with the theme. Some examples of flowers that could be used in centerpieces, bouquets, and other decorations are orange roses, poppies, carnations, dahlias, and calla lilies.

Rather than having an open bar, many couples serve a signature cocktail as a way to cut back on alcohol costs. Depending on your beverage taste, there are many orange flavored cocktail recipes that you can choose from to serve as your signature cocktail.
