Have you noticed how a lot of plants require different methods of care. I know when I first started with plants and flowers, I did not know much. During time you find yourself learning new things here and there. Weather it is from family, friends, or yourself trying different ideas. I found that I would do most things myself, but with the occasional help from others. Now I am giving a how-to on orchids , my favorite flower. They just looked so elegant and peaceful. Very simple looking flowers. They do tend to be a tad expensive though. I ending up getting mine on sale. That to me is the best time to buy one. I got mine for seven dollars. When originally it was about sixteen dollars. It did have little brown dots on it that was caused by to much sunlight. But I went ahead and bought it anyway and decided to cut it back like any other flower. I would suggest looking in the flower department at Safeway or at Walmart in the garden department. Best deals I have seen. When I did cut it back it has taken awhile to bloom. With patience I am now seeing it grow and is about to bloom. Don't mind the brown spots because you can make it beautiful once again! Orchids can be somewhat complicated , in my opinion of course. You cannot just water them and stick them in the sun. They require a lot of maintenance and careful instructions to follow.
First get a new pot. Make sure it has a hole at the bottom. It needs to be somewhat small. If it is to big then the orchid will focus on the roots growth more then the bloom.
Then get special orchid planting mix. I like the bark kind. Although it requires more frequent watering.
Pull the orchid out of it's pot, carefully, and cut off any of the roots that are dry or mushy. That way you have healthy roots for a healthy plant.
After that put a little of the orchid mix at the bottom of your pot. Stick the orchid in the pot. Then fill in the rest of the pot.
Then water it till it is nice and moist. Watering will need to be done every five days. Don't let it get dry.
Find a place to put it. Now a place in some indirect light is best. Straight in the sun will burn the leaves. I found that out from my own experience. Also that can damage yous flower. In a window behind a curtain is a great spot.
Your bloom will last up to three months. You should fertilize it about every six months.
You should keep up this maintenance every time you re-pot. Which should be every twelve months.
When you have done all of that for your orchid. You can stand back and enjoy your beautiful flower. I hope you have found this to be very helpful information. I wish you the best of luck to you.
