Order Flowers for a Wedding

Big Job - Many Facets

Janice Meyer
The person who orders flowers for a wedding should begin by knowing some important features about the wedding.

First, they need to know if the wedding will be taking place in the daytime or evening. Some flowers are more germane to the daytime and others moreso for the evening,. Let's say this wedding is taking place in the afternoon hours. Flowers of almost any kind will fit for that time of day.

Second, This person should also know what flowers and their colors will be used, and also what colors the bridesmaids, bride's mother and the flower girl will wear. The flowers should match the dresses, or come quite closs to their color. This makes for a more beautiful wedding processional down the aisle. Also, if the bride's bouquet is pink and white, the groom's boutenier should match if possible. The ring bearer should also have a small boutenier to match.

Nine inch silk garlands of variegated ivy and springeri ferns could be used at the alter, to scallope the head table, cake table or in various other places. Another thought would be to place a smaller rose on every other scallope in the pink and white pattern.

Silk flowers are quite beautiful for a wedding. A silk colonial round bouquet for each attendant, using same colors of flowers to match their gowns.

Any flowers used as a table centerpiece or other decoration, should match the flowers and gowns worn by the wedding attendants. If bows are to be placed at aisle pews, these might be one pink, one white, and on and on in that style.

This should all be planned before the purchaser visits a florist. The bride's bouquet should be of utmost importance - don't make a mistake here. Figure how many aisle ribbons and small roses will be needed for the church. If the bride wants the nine inch garlands of variegated ivy and springeri fern to adorn the altar, as well as the smaller pink and white roses for that, be sure to write that down.

Count how many bouquets of flowers for the reception tables will be needed, and if any variegated ivy and ferns will be needed.

Check with the bride before going to the florist to place her order. Be sure to have the florist figure up the total charges for everything and let the bride know. If the bride agrees to the total of the charges, head to the florist.
When the person in charge of the flowers visits the florist, she should have all of this written down. Sit down with the florist and show her exactly what you want, and the amount of each item. If the florist does not have all of the items at present, make sure she can get them at least a couple of days before the wedding.

Flowers are such an important part of weddings. My sister's 2nd wedding had the best...big, fresh sunflowers! It was an outdoor wedding and gorgeous. :)
