Order of the Phoenix Not for Little Wizards

Tania Miller
I took my daughter to see the latest Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix Usually I read the book before taking my children to see the Harry Potter movies so I can gage whether or not it will be acceptable for my 10 year old daughter, who is a Harry Potter fan. (My boys don't really care if they see it or not) I didn't have time to read this book. All I knew about Order of the Phoenix is that someone dies.

Now that I have seen the movie, I do not recommend taking younger children to see this film. I say this because the story line is getting a little more complicated and it is hard for younger audiences to follow. When I asked my daughter what she thought of the movie, she said she liked it but she didn't understand it. After we discussed the story line, she understood some of the scenes, but she still did not fully understand the conspiracy and why people in the magic world are not trusting Harry Potter.

The story moves like most of the Harry Potter movies, but this one is really geared for 13 and up. Voldermort is back and he is raising his army. The Ministry of Magic denies that Voldermort is back is trys to spin Harry and Dumbledore's claim that the dark lord has returned by using the Daily Prophet to say Harry Potter and Dumbledore are lying. The first part of the movie is weighed down by a trial because Death Eaters came after Harry in the muggle world and he was forced to use a magical spell in self-defense, thus causing Harry to be expelled from Hogwarts, but Harry is given a chance to clear his name at the trial. Despite the fact that the charges are dropped, many at Hogwarts are suspicious of Harry and Dumbledore and so is the Ministry of Magic.

Dolores Jane Umbridge played by Imelda Staunton,is assigned by the Ministry of Magic to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts. Despite looking like Lara Bush, there is something sinister about Dolores Umbridge as she uses her influence to take over Hogwarts.

Order of the Phoenix is about making choices and making a stand. Harry is worried that something is happening to him as his connection to Voldermort becomes more evident, and we learn of the prophecy.

Daniel Radcliffe did a suburb job donning on, once again, wizard robes to play Harry Potter. He has come a long way. He was only 11 years old when accepted the role as Harry.

Helena Bonham Carter makes her appearance as Bellatrix Lestrange, one of Voldermort's Death Eaters. While her role seems minor in this movie, it is believed that Bellatrix will have a more important role later in the series.

Of course Ralph Fiennes' performance as Voldermort is enough to give young children nightmares. He gives an excellent and terrifying performance as the evil dark lord.

The movie is a must-see and Harry Potter fans will not be disappointed, but I do not recommend bringing little wizards to see the movie. Now I know what to do with the rest of the summer. I need to finish reading the books so I can find out what happens.
