Ordinarily Extra-Ordinary

Heroes. Do you have one -
two, more? It's ok you know -
so many of us deny heroes
and the worship thereof;
not a behavior fitting for ones
who must keep heads from clouds.
You know - not behavior
fitting for adults.

Hero: A person
noted for feats of courage
or nobility of purpose,
especially
one who risks or sacrifices
his or her life
. This
the definition.

Our heroes, they do amazing things,
single-handedly lifting cars
from trapped bodies, rushing
into buildings ablaze to save
the Loved and the stranger alike.

Too flamboyant? Not only
are our heroes honored
for feats of physical courages, also
there are these - legends of science
and thought, women and men
who cling to principle and belief
in the face of doubt and ridicule;
heroes one and all, worthy
our admirations.

But though heroes they be,
mostly they are heroes
for a day - ordinary folks
doing extraordinary things.

Heroes are not those who do
great deeds - not to lessen
the greatness done
by millions in our histories -
real heroes do the unsung,
everyday, boring things. Schooling
uneducated minds, loving
where the world is too dark
for Love, keeping meals
hot long past their time
of eating, the Mothers
who Love no matter what
our acts, The ones without
praise, without seeking, making
something from nothing.

The ones who hold up the lantern
when we know the light will never
shine again; these
are the true heroes
of our lives.

You
are the
Hero.

(For a Mother,
a Cousin, and the best
friend A Fool ever knew,
and a world full
of quiet Heroes :: 09-02-2010)
