Oregon Vs. Stanford Game Ends in Big Upset

Oregon vs. Stanford did not go as scripted. The Oregon vs. Stanford game score ended up being far from the game that Oregon wanted, as they went to Stanford and fell by a score of 51-42. Coming into the Oregon vs. Stanford game, Oregon had posted a strong 7-1 record, with their only loss of the season being to Boise State back in September. On paper they over-matched the 5-3 Stanford Cardinal, but Stanford proved to be far too much as they took a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter and then never trailed. Instead of the Oregon Ducks wrapping up the Pac-10 title, they threw doubt on who would win it this season.

Stanford got the ball and kicked a field goal to take a 3-0 lead with less than two minutes off of the clock in the first quarter, and then tacked on a touchdown less than six minutes later to take a 10-0 lead. Oregon answered that with a 60 yard touchdown run by LaMichael James, but things would get out of control very quickly after that. Stanford would add a 4-yard touchdown run by Toby Gerhart to end the first quarter, and then at the beginning of the second quarter scored again off of a pass from Andrew Luck to Jim Dray. That made the score 24-7 in favor of Stanford, and it really looked like they had an upset on their minds from that point forward.

Oregon kept racking up points as the game progressed, but they only got within six points on a touchdown pass from Jeremiah Masoli to D.J. Davis with 2:38 remaining in the game. By that point it was just too late, and Stanford added a field goal at the end to put the game out of reach at 51-42. The offensive output was very impressive by Stanford, and was the highest scoring game that they have had so far this season. With an extremely tough set of games against Oregon, USC, California, and Notre Dame to end the season, they really needed to take home this game on Saturday afternoon. By beating Oregon, it also pushed Stanford to a 6-3 overall record, and inched them even closer to being in a 2009 bowl game.

The Oregon loss drops them to 7-2 overall on the season with three games to play against Arizona State, Arizona, and Oregon State. They still lead the Pac-10, but their game against Arizona on November 21^st looks like it could be the deciding game for the Pac-10 championship now. Things are up in the air after Stanford beat Oregon though, and with several teams only having two losses in conference play, tie-breakers could come into play if Oregon and Arizona both lose one more game before the end of the season. This is going to make the rest of the Pac-10 season very interesting indeed.
