Happy to report, Bridal Veil Lakes exceeded my expectations. Those who attended were awed by the stunning setting; a forest of green surrounding the perimeter, lush lawns, a quiet lake which beckoned the guests to enjoy the waters in one of the canoes provided by the facility, hiking paths and hidden creeks, and much more.
Initially our son and his bride intended to end the reception by 9:30 p.m. to make use of the daylight before leaving the mountain. No one was in a hurry to end the day, and most guests left long after darkness set in.
I do have several recommendations for those planning future events at Bridal Veil Lakes. First, encourage your guests to bring their cameras. If they don't, many will regret missing the incredible photo opportunities, and I'm talking scenery, not just wedding festivities.
My second suggestion would be to advise guests to never leave any bags or valuables in their vehicles. The parking lot is isolated and there are several signs warning against leaving valuables in the cars. We learned there was good reason for the notices, as several guests had the windows to their cars broken, to get inside to steal visible items. Other than those few unfortunate incidents, which could happen anywhere, we had a wonderful day.
There is no reason to spend a fortune on catered gourmet food, the guests were so delighted with their surroundings that burgers and hot dogs, made everyone happy. During the course of the afternoon many of the guests made use of one of the canoes. My husband's cousin convinced me to take one out. We were both clad in dresses, yet it didn't stop us from climbing into a teetering canoe, and making several turns around the small lake. Another cousin decided to paddle after us, which led to a lot of splashing and laughter.
For the wedding party the cabin-like restrooms provided enough space for dressing and primping. In the women's restroom there was one private area for the bride, with a make up table and large mirror. The facility was sparkling clean, and I never heard any complaints from the bridesmaids. I'm not sure how the men's room was arranged, I didn't look.
Once again I urge those in the Portland, Oregon area, who are planning a summer wedding, to consider Bridal Veil Lakes. Your theme can be elegant or casual, yet even for those who go the elegant route, I'd advise to still take time to take a ride in one of the canoes. You may get a little wet, but it will be worth the trip.
