Oregon's Clackamas County - Travel on a Budget

Getting "Out and About" Doesn't Have to Be a "Budget Buster"

Jim Needham
The Molalla River Recreational Area has many attractions which are unique and provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy our beautiful country, it's natural resources, and get to know the community better. One of my favorite attractions in the Molalla area is Rosse Posse Acres Elk Ranch. Located southeast of Molalla, just outside the city limits at 32690 S. Mathias Road (see map at conclusion), Alan and Brenda Ross have created a wonderful opportunity for kids of all ages to get right up close and personal with elk, pygmy goats, miniature donkeys, a miniature horse, turkeys, Patagonian cavy, Wallaby, and chickens. Everyone will love cute little "Tucker", the Wallaby, because he is one of the 'star' attractions!

Their "Summer" hours are Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For $5.00 you can get a wonderful tour of the ranch, including the Elk and other animals. During the week visits are by appointment only. They are a large family of six, so there is never a dull moment around the ranch. Their large and lovely house is also available for Bed and Breakfast, so if you don't get to see everything in one day you can spend the night for $159.00 (including 6% room tax).

Besides the animals and 'petting zoo' they have a gift shop which also sells an assortment of Elk meat products - including delicious Elk burger patties! Alan and Brenda are active in community affairs and dedicated proponents of Molalla recreation and tourism. They frequently conduct special events on their ranch, so you may want to take advantage of their contact information to call and find out when the best opportunities to visit are!

Their location is within easy access of several surrounding communities and may be reached without using more than a gallon of gasoline (under $3.00 round trip) from Molalla, Colton, Canby, Scotts Mills, Silverton, Mt. Angel, Mulino, and Oregon City.
