I was doubtful as I looked at her thinking, what is she talking about? I hadn't seen any new Oreo cookie version lately, but of course I had been trying to eat better so I was staying away from the cookie section at the grocery stores.
'That doesn't sound very good to me.' I said. (Someone once told me the crème filling in between the two chocolate halves of the chocolate Oreo cookies was just a combination of lard or Crisco combined with sugar. Adding peanut butter to that fat and sugar mixture made it sound even more awful!) I explained that I felt the filling was probably some fake imitation peanut butter flavoring and it wouldn't have a true peanut butter taste for my preference!
'Oh, no! They really taste like peanut butter and the crème inside is even peanut butter colored! I'll bring you in some tomorrow!' she said.
Sure enough, the next day my coworker greeted me at my cubicle with a package of New Nabisco Double Stuff Oreo Peanut Butter Crème sandwich cookies.
I was apprehensive, but it was clear to me she wasn't going to leave until she saw me try one of the peanut butter Oreos.
I took one from the package and bit into it. I could tell they were very fresh because the chocolate cookie part had sort of a sheen to them. Also, the cookie crumbled easily when I bit into it and the chocolate cookie parts even slid around a little bit when I bit into the sandwich.
Indeed, the filling in the cookie was close to the color of peanut butter. Okay, it did have something of a peanut butter flavor. The chocolate cookie combined with the mild peanut butter flavor wasn't bad at all, not as flavorful as my dipping one of my original Nabisco Oreo Sandwich cookies in that yummy Jif creamy fresh and smooth peanut butter, but it was okay, not overly sweet or anything, but okay.
'I like to eat mine like this!' she said as she twisted her cookie apart. Yeah, as if I needed help in learning the many different ways there are to eat an Oreo Sandwich cookie! I'd been eating Oreos long before she was born! Besides, I'd purposely bitten through the whole sandwich cookie at once in order to experience the flavor combination Nabisco was trying to achieve with the new cookie.
Next, it was time to taste the flavors separately. I twisted the cookie apart and tried some of the crème alone, that would tell me if the filling could stand on its own in not being overly sweet or if it depended on the chocolate cookie part to tone it down. Well, sure enough the filling did okay and remained not too sweet on its own.
Then I tried the remainder of the cookie part topped with the filling and placed it on my tongue filling side down. Pretty good!
I popped the remainder of the cookie in my mouth and took 2 more from the package before she set them out for the office to enjoy.
'I believe that 3 Oreo cookies make up a serving, so I have to take these 2 to even things out and get an accurate calorie count!' I explained.
Okay, so the Nabisco Double Stuff Peanut Butter Crème Oreos were pretty good, but still totally unnecessary in my opinion. I'm not sure if I'd purchase them again when I can buy the regular Oreo Sandwich cookies and add my own peanut butter to them, allowing me to take advantage of both flavors. Besides, I like the filling in Nabisco Nutter Butter sandwich cookies better than the filling in this one anyhow. This made me wonder since both cookies are products of Nabisco, why didn't they just use the same filling as the Nutter Butter sandwich cookie, it seems like it would be more cost effective!
By the way, I love the new Nabisco re-sealable packaging being used on all of their cookies. Its less packaging and extremely easy to use, just lift the tab to access the cookies and press it back in place to reseal the package!
